DOWNLOAD EBOOK"The December 1990 meeting of more than sixty U.S. experts in marine science of the Intra-Americas Sea made 21 recommendations, with deadlines and agencies responsible to carry them out. These recommendations were a consensus of two days of institutional reports, individual conversations, and workshops. The one overwhelming recommendations was to support the UNEP and IOC in the region through active U.S. scientists' participation in problem identification, project planning and execution, and information transfer. A regional emphasis on marine science issues with clearly defined impacts on U.S. interests was considered essential to generating the financial support neccesary to successful project implementation"--Executive summary, paragraph 1

DOWNLOAD EBOOKAlready in its sixth year of existence, this "Documentary Yearbook" provides you with the only independent collection of documents related to ocean affairs and the law of the sea, issued each year by international organizations. The "Yearbook" is arranged systematically and thereby gives the community of scholars and practitioners in ocean affairs and the law of the sea much improved access to essential documentation. Like the previous volumes, the 1990 volume focuses on the United Nations family of international organizations and on several non-UN intergovernmental organizations of developing states. The most important documents which were issued in the course of 1990 are reproduced (in whole or in part), while other relevant documents are listed. An extensive index of Keywords facilitates access by the reader to the complex and often interrelated matters dealt with by various organizations as well as to the information concerning individual states, regions and international instruments.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThis report presents the GIWA assessment of the Small Islands sub-system of the Caribbean Sea region - an area particularly vulnerable to human activities owing to the fragility of the island ecosystems and their limited carrying capacities. Habitat and community modification, as a result of anthropogenic pressures, was found to cause the most severe transboundary environmental and socio-economic impacts in the sub-system. The governments regard rapid economic growth as a priority, which they have failed to balance with the conservation and protection of important ecosystems. The Causal chain analysis discusses the root causes of habitat and community modification by investigating the cause-effect pathways of the concern. Policy options are proposed that aim to provide solutions to these fundamental issues, in order to enhance the management of the region's aquatic environment.--Publisher's description.
