Extract: Research on tourism and recreation has expanded rapidly in the past decade in both content and coverage. Yet its major thrust remains descriptive with an emphasis on impact and market studies. This paper proposes a shift in this research to an emphasis on decision information and the means for improving its quality, accessibility, and application. A prototype information system is presented which is built on existing tourism/recreation data and within the context of an existing impact assessment system.
