GOD is defined and in so far as possible has described creation, communications between GOD and mankind, life, reincarnation, cosmology, commandments, prayers, virtues and sins, morals, and how many other facets of GOD are treated. Closure is reached, the possible results for the future are predicted and a religion, church and world government is proposed to promote and bring about the best possible results.
I titled this book Random Thoughts overtly tongue-in-cheek because, as I have argued in the introduction and preface, I do not believe in anything random about why and how we exist in a nonrandom universe. I strongly believe in creationism, one that does not deny the factuality of evolution in that creative process. The way I see it, the universe and our existence was schemed, designed, and finely-tuned by a transcendent supremely sentient impulse""God""who is not into acts of futility. The essay titled "It's All about God" specifically argues the idea that God's creation of sentient beings""us""was His act of utmost utility because if we are not here to perceive, experience, and witness the universe in all its glory, it would just be cold, dead space out here, there, and everywhere with neither usefulness nor timeliness.
Random Thoughts is a collection of fifteen essays in literary criticism, some revised, improved and reprinted, and others in print for the first time. These essays are the outcome of the author’s intensive reading and revaluation of a wide variety of Indian, British, African, Singaporean and Pakistani writers and their works in English. Ranging from William Shakespeare to Rabindranath Tagore, from Edward Said to Salman Rushdie, from Chinua Achebe to Edwin Thumboo, from Shiv K. Kumar to K. N. Daruwalla, from Shashi Deshpande to Cyrus Mistry, they are the evidence of exercises in critical intelligence. In addition, there are essays focused on the nature and function of transparency in autobiography, theoretical perceptions about the author-text relationship, Indian feminism, Indian English children’s literature, the Buddhist vision in English literature, and Pakistani poetry in English. The book, thus, addresses the works of different literary genres – poetry, fiction, drama, memoir, and translation – sensitively and with a freshness of approach. Since these writers mostly figure in the university syllabi in India and abroad, the book is a valuable contribution to the body of literary criticism, and is especially useful for students, teachers, researchers and readers with an interest in English literature.
For the first time, the entire 18-year collection of Tom's "Random Thoughts" columns from Fire Engineering magazine are assembled and presented in book format.
The fact that I paint what is perceived as subject matter is beside the point. For me, subject matter is only an excuse to observe abstract organic shapes and patterns where they exist in nature and push their shape-space relationships to the limits. This is what art is to me. It is what my art is about. ART ATTITUDE: the random thoughts of RFM McInnis... a sort of autobiography, has been developed over a 60 year span of building a successful art career. Its a wonder to see this magic happen again and again: I find myself spellbound by music. Could words explain the mystery of that? Perhaps. And if I tread carefully and keep alert, I wont miss a simple miracle: the words, committed to paper, suddenly make the prosaic passage of a manuscript come to light. Grow warm, convey the ineffable, and liberate the tender soul of art that dwells in the infinite beyond the cryptic surface of a musical score.
The book RANDOM THOUGHTS is a compilation of write-ups, on those aspects of life I have felt and feel strongly about. Nostalgic reflections as I move down memory lane, reminiscing about the bygone days, sometimes with childish glee, sometimes with remorse and at other times with a hopeful hope. The writings likewise are a smooth blend of the past merging into the present and vice-versa. I write with candour, which most oft than not verges on to bluntness since I write straight from the heart, a sort of umbilical connect betwixt my thoughts and words. Words have an intangible power of coming alive, like a painting on a canvas, making the reader get lost amidst their folds. Random Thoughts I hope will give respite to the readers from the day-to-day stresses of life as they will traverse through the journey of my life with a keen involvement and interest.
