Long, long ago, in the super, mega prosperous, mystical, and magical planet simply known as Empyrean, there were two of the "Four Noble Animal Tribes", the four mightiest, most powerful animal tribes, that co-exist well within the prosperous planet and wield such great, immense, and impressive power and strength, that faced off against each other during the warring period when fame and wealth was everything in the world, and they'd only cared to increase their value and skills and conquest over various lands was grandiose for many Country Lords at the time; they were the "Coco/Lightning Paw", who were very thicken legged mammals, with tan skin, large, sensual structure, and known for their lightning fast kicks, and specialize in electricity, against the Hugertars, who were considered to be the ultimate battle vixens, who're curvaceous, voluptuous, athletic, and were battle-oriented with various weapons, and their affinity element is fire. The two warred against each other, during the "Battle of the Felidae Blood", the decisive battle, that determined who was going to win between the both of them, and reign as the best overall. After the intensive battle that they've had, the Hugertars returned back to Mt. Felice, to celebrate their win, until a huge event happened to them both that totally changed them forever. These two great forces were so great and powerful, a turbulence of absolute power and meta-physical force that it one time shook the world to its core. Combining their Yin/Yang (Heaven/Earth), power together in order to create a turbulence of absolute power the likes which anybody hasn't seen, and making sure that everything all comes together as well. The essays collected in this volume examine manifestations of our sublime cosmos in ancient literature and its reception. Individual themes include religious mystery; calendrical and cyclical thinking as ordering principles of human experience; divine birth and the manifold nature of divinity (both awesome and terrifying); contemplation of the sky and meteorological (ir)regularity; fears associated with overpowering natural and anthropogenic events; and the aspirations and limitations of human expression. In texts ranging from Homer to Keats, the volume's chapters apply diverse critical methods and approaches that engage with sublimity in various aesthetic, agential and metaphysical aspects. The ancient texts – epic, dramatic, historiographic and lyric – treated here are rooted in a remote world where, within a framework of (perceived) celestial order, literature, myth and science still communicated profoundly, a tradition that continued in literary receptions of these ancient works. This volume honours the intellectual legacy of Thomas D. Worthen, a scholar whose expertise and insights cut across multiple disciplines, and who influenced and inspired students and colleagues at the University of Arizona, USA, for over three decades. Beyond clarifying temporally and culturally distant contemplations of the human universe, these essays aim to inform the continuing sense of wonder and horror at the sublime heights and depths of our ever-changing cosmos.

Christopher Walter's study of the cult and iconography of Byzantine warrior saints - George, Demetrius, the two Theodores, and dozens more - is at once encyclopaedic and interpretative, and the first comprehensive study of the subject. The author delineates their origins and development as a distinctive category of saint, showing that in its definitive form this coincides with the apogee of the Byzantine empire in the 10th-11th centuries. He establishes a repertory, particularly of their commemorations in synaxaries and their representations in art, and describes their iconographical types and the functions ascribed to them once enrolled in the celestial army: support for the terrestrial army in its offensive campaigns, and a new protective role when the Byzantine Empire passed to the defensive. The survey highlights the lack of historicity among the Byzantines in their approach to the lives of these saints and their terrestrial careers. An epilogue briefly treats the analogous traditions in the cultures of neighbouring peoples. Walter draws attention to the development of an echelon of military saints, notably in church decoration, which provides the surest basis for defining their specificity; also to the way in which they were depicted, generally young, handsome and robust, and frequently 'twinned' in pairs, so calling attention to the importance of camaraderie among soldiers. At the same time, this work opens a new perspective on the military history of the Byzantine Empire. Its ideology of war consistently followed that of the Israelites; protected and favoured by divine intervention, there was no occasion to discuss the morality of a 'just war'. Consequently, when considering Byzantine methods of warfare, due attention should be given to the important role which they attributed to celestial help in their military campaigns.
