This book contains the papers from the Proceedings of the 1st international joint symposium on joining and welding held at Osaka University, Japan, 6-8 November 2013. The use of frictional heating to process and join materials has been used for many decades. Rotary and linear friction welding are vital techniques for many industrial sectors. More recently the development of friction stir welding (FSW) has significantly extended the application of friction processing. This conference is the first event organized by the three major institutes for joining and welding to focus on the broad range of friction processes. This symposium will provide the latest valuable information from academic and industrial experts from around the world on FSW, FSP, linear and rotary friction welding.

Fusion bonding is one of the three methods available for joining composite and dissimilar materials. While the other two, mechanical fastening and adhesion bonding, have been the subject of wide coverage both in textbooks and monographs, fusion bonding is covered here substantially for the first time. Fusion bonding offers a number of advantages over traditional joining techniques and it is anticipated that its use will increase dramatically in the future because of the rise in the use of thermoplastic matrix composites and the growing necessity for recyclability of engineering assemblies. Fusion Bonding of Polymer Composites provides an in-depth understanding of the physical mechanisms involved in the fusion bonding process, covering such topics as: - heat transfer in fusion bonding; - modelling thermal degradation; - consolidation mechanisms; - crystallisation kinetics; - processing-microstructure-property relationship; - full-scale fusion bonding; - fusion bonding of thermosetting composite/thermoplastic composite and metal/thermoplastic joints. The book focuses on one practical case study using the resistance welding process. This example exposes the reader to the development of processing windows for a novel manufacturing process including the use of experimental test programmes and modelling strategies.

This book promotes an interdisciplinary approach to maintenance, through the presentation of practical and theoretical research in the field of electrical, civil, and mechanical engineering. The goal is to raise the level of maintenance knowledge, taking into account the continuous advancement of engineering and technology in all spheres of economy, infrastructure, and public services. This book contains papers presented at the 30th International Conference on Organization and Technology of Maintenance (OTO 2021), and the conference was held on Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Information Technology Osijek on 10-11 December 2021. The book brings 36 original papers written by authors from ten countries that underwent a blind review process by the international review board members. The conference covers the topics as organization and management of maintenance, maintenance technologies, quality management in system maintenance, information systems in maintenance, product lifecycle management, design for maintainability, material and structure properties, reliability of technical systems and environmental safety, diagnosis and prognosis of failures and operational malfunctions, design optimization for maintenance, maintenance in technical systems, analysis of efficiency and cost effectiveness of maintenance, influence of maintenance on the environment and employee safety, maintenance legislation, and education for maintenance. The papers presented in the book reflect the current state of approach to maintenance as an interdisciplinary field. The OTO conference proved itself as an ideal opportunity for communication between scientists and experts in maintenance practice with the aim to raise the level of expertise and introduce new methods and maintenance procedures into everyday practice.
