DOWNLOAD EBOOKThis Festschrift is published in honor of Edward A. Lee, Robert S. Pepper Distinguished Professor Emeritus and Professor in the Graduate School in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences at the University of California, Berkeley, USA, on the occasion of his 60th birthday. The title of this Festschrift is “Principles of Modeling" because Edward A. Lee has long been devoted to research that centers on the role of models in science and engineering. He has been examining the use and limitations of models, their formal properties, their role in cognition and interplay with creativity, and their ability to represent reality and physics. The Festschrift contains 29 papers that feature the broad range of Edward A. Lee’s research topics; such as embedded systems; real-time computing; computer architecture; modeling and simulation, and systems design.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThe use of modern planning and optimization systems for process synchronization in value networks requires the optimal information exchange between the entities involved. The central focus of Sven Grolik's study is the development of efficient mechanisms for the coordination of information allocation by the example of interconnected transportation marketplaces. Unlike traditional information allocation algorithms, the algorithms developed in his analysis are based on update mechanisms which maintain a weak consistency of replicated information in the network. Sven Grolik shows that these algorithms enable savings concerning the update costs as well as increase the performance within the network, but at the same time guarantee compliance with quality of service levels concerning the currency of information. The focus of this work is the development of decentralized, online algorithms which make a logically distributed computation possible on the basis of local information. The development of these innovative algorithms is based on approaches of multi-agent system theory as well as distributed simulated annealing techniques.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKWavelet analysis and its applications have become one of the fastest growing research areas in the past several years. Wavelet theory has been employed in many fields and applications, such as signal and image processing, communication systems, biomedical imaging, radar, air acoustics, and endless other areas. Active media technology is concerned with the development of autonomous computational or physical entities capable of perceiving, reasoning, adapting, learning, cooperating, and delegating in a dynamic environment. This book consists of carefully selected and received papers presented at the conference, and is an attempt to capture the essence of the current state-of-the-art in wavelet analysis and active media technology. Invited papers included in this proceedings includes contributions from Prof P Zhang, T D Bui, and C Y Suen from Concordia University, Canada; Prof N A Strelkov and V L Dol'nikov from Yaroslavl State University, Russia; Prof Chin-Chen Chang and Ching-Yun Chang from Taiwan; Prof S S Pandey from R D University, India; and Prof I L Bloshanskii from Moscow State Regional University, Russia.
