DOWNLOAD EBOOKExcerpt from On Horseback in the School and on the Road This book is a welding together, re-arrangement and partial re-writing of two predecessors. I published the first, "How to Ride," in London, during a temporary residence abroad. It was my intention to bring out an edition of it in this country, but I was prevented doing so by the action of the Orange Judd Company, which issued my book in a mutilated form, incorporated with matter by some other hand, under the title of "Riding and Training Saddle Horses." DOWNLOAD EBOOKWidely known for her innovative teaching philosophy stressing body awareness, the value of "soft eyes," proper breathing, centering, and balance, Sally Swift has been a pioneering riding instructor for half a century. In book form for the first time, her methods enable horse and rider to achieve harmony, working together naturally, without pain. Unlike traditional teachers, Sally Swift does not believe in forced training techniques that cause stiff bodies and tense riding. Instead, through the use of vivid, unusual, and highly creative images that transcend mechanics ("Pretend you're a spruce tree; the roots grow down from your center as the trunk grows up"), plus a thorough knowledge of human and equine anatomy, this wise and inspiring teacher enables the conscientious equestrian to reassess habitual responses, in order to ride in natural positions, break through frustrating plateaus, and achieve ever-rising goals with comfort, vitality, and precision. Precise illustrations and photographs never before used in riding books explain anatomy and image work to give mind and body new and relaxed approaches to the inner process of riding. Centered Riding is for those with little experience all the way up to world class.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKMr. Egger was far from being inhospitable, but was in no hurry, and never had been in a hurry. He was not exactly a gentleman of the old school. He was better than that. He dated from the time when there were no schools at all, and he lived in that placid world which is without information and ideas-from On HorsebackA favorite of readers of his time, the travelogues of Charles Dudley Warner continue to delight armchair globetrotters today. On Horseback, first serialized in The Atlantic Monthly between July and October 1885, is Warner's witty and engaging account of a trip through the Southern United States, from the challenges and charms of mounted travel to the restful beauty of the landscapes and the resilience and generosity of the people of the Appalachian Mountains. Also in this volume: Mexican Notes, which originally appeared in Harper's New Monthly Magazine from May to August 1887, the chronicle of a two-month journey by train south of the border. Whether Warner is despairing of the quality of Mexican coffee or indulging in hot-spring baths, his observations are uniquely entertaining.American essayist and novelist CHARLES DUDLEY WARNER (1829-1900) served on the editorial staffs of the Hartford Press, the Hartford Courant, and Harpers Magazine. He was the first president of the National Institute of Arts and Letters, and published numerous books, including My Summer in a Garden (1870), My Winter on the Nile (1876), and a biography of Washington Irving (1881).
