Firstly, it tells a cracking story of one confused and increasingly delusional man’s journey through life, land and time. It depicts, in a highly fictional yet worryingly prophetic way, how destructively the influence of religion can effect not just the perspective of a single individual, but the development of an entire belief system. Secondly it questions the origins, validity, theory, authenticity, and general principles of modern belief systems, in an often scathing but always genuinely inquisitive way. A way, nevertheless, that some will find fascinating, while other, more orthodox religious practitioners, might find unacceptable. But keep reading, there are many twists and turns in the story. I have been lucky enough to read the second instalment of the story, which is not yet available to the public, but I can assure you takes the story to a conclusion that’s worth the wait. (I must add that this first book is a complete story in itself.) Thirdly, the story leads the main character to develop a theory which daringly suggests a complete alternative to the religiously accepted concept of ‘God’, or divine being. One that will ruffle the feathers of believers and non-believers alike. Ultimately, the book is just a novel and I enjoyed it as a story. But as a committed atheist, I found myself doing the one thing I never thought I would… considering the possible existence of divine spirituality. Many will scoff, many will take umbrage, many will have their religious commitment undermined, others will be thrown into confusion, but no one will read this book without re-examining their attitude towards modern religion, God, and spirituality. The question that matters is - No matter what your religious convictions are, are they strong enough to read this book?"

One man’s quest to find the oldest Bible scrolls in the world and uncover the story of the brilliant, doomed antiquarian accused of forging them. In the summer of 1883, Moses Wilhelm Shapira—archaeological treasure hunter and inveterate social climber—showed up unannounced in London claiming to have discovered the oldest copy of the Bible in the world. But before the museum could pony up his £1 million asking price for the scrolls—which discovery called into question the divine authorship of the scriptures—Shapira’s nemesis, the French archaeologist Charles Clermont-Ganneau, denounced the manuscripts, turning the public against him. Distraught over this humiliating public rebuke, Shapira fled to the Netherlands and committed suicide. Then, in 1947 the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered.
