"Not Another Second" tells the stories of 12 LGBT+ seniors. It details the years they lost to societal constraints, years where they were not able to be their authentic selves or openly express their love. It also tells of the triumphs they experienced over these constraints. This book acknowledges and celebrates the sacrifices, bravery and contributions of these seniors and offers wisdom to future generations in the hopes that not one person will lose another second. LGBT+ seniors born in the 1930s, '40s and '50s are the brave pioneers who stood up and pushed back, refusing to be treated as social outcasts, criminals and sinners or seen as mentally ill. Their living legacy includes hard-won federal rights for LGBT+ members to legally marry, adopt, work and seek housing and health care without discrimination. Now in their sixties, seventies and eighties, the 3 million LGBT+ seniors currently living in the United States want subsequent generations to learn from their living history, to be inspired to stand on their shoulders and to continue to fight for what's right. A collaboration between the trailblazing nonprofit SAGE and Watermark Retirement Communities, this book gives readers a candid glimpse into the private and public lives of Pearl, Nick, Mark, Paul, Paulette, Pat, Lujira, Ellie, Reverend Kennedy, Ronnie, Ray and Richard. They are lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender. Their generation led the Stonewall Uprising, founded Act Up and helped end "don't ask, don't tell." These seniors are presented through a series of more than 100 portraits interspersed with stories of their experiences as members of the LGBT+ community. Each moving portrait, captured by noted German photographer Karsten Thormaehlen, is accompanied by the number of years lost, years when they could not live as their true self beyond their inner circle of trusted friends and family. All proceeds collected from the sale of this book will be donated to Watermark for Kids, a nonprofit organization, in support of LGBT+ young people.

Why on earth would two history nerds use their own free time to write another US history textbook? Well, that, intelligent human, is the right question. This work breaks from the traditional memorization of who, what, when, where, and focuses on why and how. The former is popular in schools due to its efficiency in quantification for testing. You're either right or wrong about remembering facts. But it's so boring that most students turn off their brains once they set foot in the class, and that habit continues well into old age, if not recognized and corrected. Why and how are more subjective, therefore harder to grade. But with their asking, people become re-centered in our collective story, where they belong. Only then can proper context be understood, and criticism and perspective be applied. We believe this approach to be the missing link in our education and understanding of current issues, norms, and discussion points. Hopefully, after reading this work, each reader's critical thinking will activate around all history permanently. That will certainly aid humanity's evolution and communication. Wait, does that mean this book can be categorized as self-help? Argue away!

For every twenty-something who's thrown aside traditional relationship books in despair comes a new kind of dating book. Renee Fisher, a refreshing new voice for today's generation, pulls no punches as she addresses the real, relevant questions and issues young adults encounter today: How do I honor God with my body? What's the deal with online dating? Does it matter if my significant other is a Christian? Is there only one person out there for me? Can God use me in my singleness? How should I relate to my ex after a breakup? I think there's more to life than dating... but what? What happens if I've made mistakes? With her trademark wit and enthusiasm, Renee Fisher, Devotional Diva and author of Faithbook of Jesus, urges young adults to take a closer look at the way they relate to God and others, showing them that every relationship finds its perfect example in Christ. Each daily devotion includes scriptural insight, prayers, journaling space, and questions for further thought from real-life twenty-somethings.

During World War II, as the United States called on its citizens to serve in unprecedented numbers, the presence of gay Americans in the armed forces increasingly conflicted with the expanding antihomosexual policies and procedures of the military. In Coming Out Under Fire, Allan Berube examines in depth and detail these social and political confrontation--not as a story of how the military victimized homosexuals, but as a story of how a dynamic power relationship developed between gay citizens and their government, transforming them both. Drawing on GIs' wartime letters, extensive interviews with gay veterans, and declassified military documents, Berube thoughtfully constructs a startling history of the two wars gay military men and women fough--one for America and another as homosexuals within the military. Berube's book, the inspiration for the 1995 Peabody Award-winning documentary film of the same name, has become a classic since it was published in 1990, just three years prior to the controversial "don't ask, don't tell" policy, which has continued to serve as an uneasy compromise between gays and the military. With a new foreword by historians John D'Emilio and Estelle B. Freedman, this book remains a valuable contribution to the history of World War II, as well as to the ongoing debate regarding the role of gays in the U.S. military.
