It was so hard to see what I was doing. I needed both hands, so I kept my phone in my pocket and I fumbled around. I slipped a lot as I couldn't see what I was doing. I just kept focussed and moved the blocks. It was hard, the blocks are heavy but I knew I needed a lot of them to build a worthwhile platform. At one point I slipped and fell over, the concrete block I was holding smashing down onto my right hand. I lay there for a few seconds, drenched, my knee really hurting and my hand not hurting at all. It was so numb from the cold and from lifting the blocks that I had no idea whether I'd hurt it or not. Fortunately, I hadn't. I don't think words can describe just how low, desperate, cold, lonely and fed up I felt at that point lying in close to a foot of water in the freezing cold, completely dark night.
