DOWNLOAD EBOOK"Several individuals in the coaching and education community are actively engaging in an action research project. The goal of the project is to implement a system or policy that will integrate a process in the school districts that will inform all potential student athletes of the requirements necessary to meet NCAA academic requirements. The project came about in this formal way because of the need to fulfill a requirement for a Masters in Leadership degree at Saint Mary's College of California. The action research approach was a thorough approach in looking at ways to address the knowledge gap between the NCAA and potential student athletes. I assembled a group of individuals with varied experiences with the NCAA Eligibility Center. None of the individuals were familiar with the action research method. The individuals who participated in this research process were either college coaches who were recruiting these potential student athletes who would have had to meet these eligibility process, high school coaches who interact with these potential college bound student athletes, a board of education member who could give us insight into district policy and or requirements, student athletes who either fulfilled the requirements or were disqualified from the, the athletic commissioner for a school district, a parent of a student athlete who is also in education administration and me who was also a parent of two student athletes. We all came together in order to create sustainable organization change in the district to address the needs of student athletes. For the purposes of this project, four cycles were completed. Because of this action research process, we have learned that this project is extremely complex and we have a thorough approach to a comprehensive solution that will require further work."--Abstract, p. 1.
