He enlisted in 1908, and was serving in India at the outbreak of war in August 1914. He embarked for France shortly afterwards and took a prominent part in numerous engagements, including the Battle of Neuve Chapelle and Ypres II, and was invalided home in May 1915, through wounds. He proceeded to the Dardanelles in August of that year, and was in action at the Landing at Sulva Bay, and the engagement at Chunuk Bair. In February 1916 he was transferred to Mesopotamia, and rendered valuable services during the attempted Relief of Kut, and the later fighting. He made the supreme sacrifice, being killed in action in February 1917, and was entitled to the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals. (Mrs.), Special War Worker For more than two years this lady rendered valuable services in the Cartridge Filling Department of Woolwich Arsenal. She worked through a number of air raids, and was on duty at the time of the Silvertown explosion.
