You're having a baby. That's it. Game over, man. Life as you know it is done. Go ahead, freak out. Comic Chris Mancini was terrified of his impending fatherhood. But soon after throwing up upon seeing the little blue line, he realized that most expectant dads sometimes feel nervous, depressed, or powerless -- like a new baby is guy-kryptonite. Chris has been there and survived it. He'll talk you off the ledge. Naturally, you have plenty of questions: How many diapers will I really have to change? Will I ever have sex again? When should I mention that new 50-inch LCD television I want? Is it okay to play Grand Theft Auto while I hold my kid? Aren't there robots that can do most of this stuff by now? From fearing the ovulation kit, to leaving your child with a complete stranger when you go back to work, to the best and worst parts of being a parent, to wondering if Dr. Spock really is like Mr. Spock, Pacify Me is full of honest, hilarious, and insightful advice for new dads. Like, if you screw up a little the first time you're alone with the baby, it's not as if she's going to tattle. And babies love the mall. The truth is, the anxiety leading up to your child's birth is way worse than the anxiety of actually having a child. Soon you'll discover that the joy of experiencing life through innocent new eyes more than makes up for having to send your inner teenager to bed before midnight, unless there's something cool on Adult Swim.

Pssst.... this is from one Dad to another. If you're past your 20s (and 30s), and you just found out that your wife is pregnant, you are probably full of questions (and fears?) that few people can answer. Some of your friends have kids who are already grown up, and the rest of your friends probably don't want them. If your parents are still around, they might barely even remember the issues you're about to face. What does it mean to start the journey of fatherhood a bit later in life?I was in my 40s, and terrified, even though I always knew I wanted to be a Dad someday. (Just not THIS day!) When you find out that Baby is coming, it's both wonderful and frightening. What should you expect? So right now you're probably a bit freaked out, hopefully you're also happy, but above all you're BUSY! This book is mercifully short, direct, and to-the-point. I anticipated your questions about what you should (and shouldn't) be afraid of, what your shopping list should look like, and a healthy dose of encouragement. Don't worry... you've got this under control.

I put this book together for several reasons. My hope is to help others going through the loss of their father or anyone close to them whether past, present or future. My desire is to also help to heal the hurting hearts of those who have shared their stories with you in this book. What a loving tribute to their dads to tell the world how much they love them and that they will be remembered forever. And lastly but not least to honor my own father and to make him proud of me by doing what he last told me to do, “keep helping others”. So to you the reader if you are experiencing the pain of having lost your dad or if you know that you're going to lose your dad or know someone who is or has, thank you for purchasing this book. And I hope through the stories found in it's pages you find strength and courage and hope. Because it's my belief that our life doesn't end just because we no longer reside on this earth, but that we continue to exist in a higher place and in the hearts of those who love and miss us. In this book you will also find tidbits on how to deal with other things that can cause us to grieve. Things that you'll probably be surprised to learn we have the right to grieve over. What do we grieve for? You'd be surprised at what warrants our grief. We all grieve over the death of someone we love and we know we grieve over the loss of our pets. But did you know that we also have the right to grieve over the loss of a relationship, a job, a home... all of these things are worthy of a mourning period. The loss of anything that we hold dear and has held a prominent place in our lives and/or hearts causes us sorrow and pain and is worth taking the time to mourn and heal. In this book others share their stories and it's comforting to see where they are in their journey. Losing someone is heart breaking but losing someone as prominent in our lives as our fathers changes us forever. Some of these ladies are in the beginning and you can feel their pain and anger and sense of disconnection with the rest of the world and yet you will also read stories of those who have had time to process and heal and grow. It's my hope that their stories will also give you hope to see that while yes this does change who you are at your core forever... it changes you for the better... that same pain that is causing you to hurt so much now... is the same pain that is going to allow you, in fact help you get stronger and move you into the next phase of your life... IF you allow yourself the time... the respect... to grieve.

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BEST SELLER • In this urgent, authoritative book, Bill Gates sets out a wide-ranging, practical—and accessible—plan for how the world can get to zero greenhouse gas emissions in time to avoid a climate catastrophe. Bill Gates has spent a decade investigating the causes and effects of climate change. With the help of experts in the fields of physics, chemistry, biology, engineering, political science, and finance, he has focused on what must be done in order to stop the planet's slide to certain environmental disaster. In this book, he not only explains why we need to work toward net-zero emissions of greenhouse gases, but also details what we need to do to achieve this profoundly important goal. He gives us a clear-eyed description of the challenges we face. Drawing on his understanding of innovation and what it takes to get new ideas into the market, he describes the areas in which technology is already helping to reduce emissions, where and how the current technology can be made to function more effectively, where breakthrough technologies are needed, and who is working on these essential innovations. Finally, he lays out a concrete, practical plan for achieving the goal of zero emissions—suggesting not only policies that governments should adopt, but what we as individuals can do to keep our government, our employers, and ourselves accountable in this crucial enterprise. As Bill Gates makes clear, achieving zero emissions will not be simple or easy to do, but if we follow the plan he sets out here, it is a goal firmly within our reach.

When global pop star Kelly Rowland became a mom for the first time, giving birth to her son Titan, she felt the most incredible love she had ever experienced. But after spending nine months so focused on the baby growing inside her, she was caught completely off guard by how much she had changed. Like many first-time moms, she was not ready for what had happened to her body and for so many overwhelming new thoughts and emotions. She wondered: Will I Ever Walk Again? Will I Ever Sleep Again? Are My Boobs Always Going to Be Like This? Rowland had questions about everything from postpartum bleeding, skin and hair changes, and dealing with aches and pains to getting back in shape and sex after baby. She also weighed the larger notions about what she wanted out of motherhood and the rest of her life. It was a good thing that Rowland's longtime OB/GYN Dr. Tristan Emily Bickman was right there to answer every single crazy question that popped into her head. Nothing fazed Dr. Bickman and she provided Rowland with the answers she so desperately needed, telling her over and over that, in the months after a woman gives birth, nothing is exactly strange, but nothing is necessarily normal either. It's all just part of the "miracle" of birth. In Whoa, Baby! Rowland and Dr. Bickman team up to share this reassuring information with new moms everywhere. Often hilarious and always down-to-earth, Rowland and Dr. Bickman cover every surprising challenge that new moms face.

With over 120,000 copies sold, this unique contemporary work brings the timeless Tibetan Bardo teaching into current American culture and language, with 49 days of readings for someone who has died or who is preparing for the dying experience. This book has been and still remains an important tool for providing a spiritual service to a dying person as opposed to grieving, processing loss, or mourning for that person's passage. Front matter includes "Notes on the Labyrinth" (or the Bardo...) and other commentary by the author that provides insights for an American reader who wishes to provide this guiding service to a family member, spouse, friend, or anyone who is terminal. The reading instructions very clearly outline when and what to read, without any limitation of belief system--the practice is presented as non-denominational, not requiring Buddhist or Christian or Jewish prayers, but also not in conflict with any of these. A schedule of readings shows graphically how to carry out the full series of 49 days of readings, at approximately 10 to 20 minutes per reading. The book has been in use since 1974 in various editions, taught in university courses on Death & Dying and related subjects (it is referenced in a recent handbook of acting exercises, for example...), and used by hospice workers and nurses internationally. The American Book of the Dead is often referenced in discussions of the 1970's West Coast spiritual renaissance, and many of the baby boomer generation will recall it in circulation when they were in college or beginning their careers. Translated editions have appeared in Spanish and Greek languages, with editions in preparation in German, French, Italian, and Polish. There is a course available by correspondence and on the internet that gives additional training for readers who wish to pursue the practice of performing "Labyrinth Readings" or "Bardo guiding" as a service to others--beyond one's own family and personal network.
