In this book, Sister Angelita tells her story of those 15 years in Nigeria. Sister Angelita did all this missionary activity while constantly begging for prayers and financial support to carry on her work. Her love of God shines through in everything that Sister Angelita accomplished. During her worst tribulations, and there were many, her constant prayer was "God is Good". Indeed, each of the stories Angelita relates in her little book radiates her dependence on Divine Providence. The chapters show how God worked through her to ease the afflictions of body, soul, and spirit of the people she loved so much. Because of her, their lives became a little more bearable. This little dynamo of a person never takes "no" for an answer. When the going gets tough, she works all the harder to accomplish her objectives. I know of no one with a more determined spirit. The reason for writing this book was to let the African-American in America read about my experience in Africa.The excitement in traveling there and what I really experience in living there in the Country.
The neurosurgical, surgical and medical training and practice models have to keep up with the technological revolution in the 21st Century as our lives changed on a swift base. Making bioethics and metacognition a cornerstone in medical education and practice will flourish our humane societies. Metacognition is thinking about one’s thinking, to plan, monitor and assess one’s understanding and performance. By adherence to medical ethics and Values-Based Medicine (VsBM) as guiding principles, we can develop benevolent medical practice. To enhance knowledge application, skills, and character qualities in realms beyond the immediate context in which they were learned. In this book, we developed a framework on how to evolve medical education and training by utilizing hi-tech. We divided the book into five principal components; Current and traditional root analysis of the learning process, Ethics and metacognition of education, learning and career development, Obstacles, difficulties and setbacks in learning and career development process, Learning in the digital era, and Mentorship. The author believes we are entering a new era of information technology, which will have a significant impact on the education, sciences, strategies and philosophy. Therefore, in preparation for this colossal transformation, the author brings together the best brains in the neurosurgical field from around the globe. Twenty distinguished Professors of Neurosurgery and educators from Canada, the USA, Colombia, the UK, Italy, the Netherland, India, Japan, China, Rwanda, Egypt and Saudi Arabia gathered their experiences and thoughts in this book to shade light on an evolving world that will be the norm in near future.
One of the great adventurers and explorers of Spain's Golden Age of discovery was Cristoforo Colon, Christopher Columbus. His exploits centering on the discovery of new lands across the Atlantic gave rise to an incredible personality cult that bestowed upon the man an almost 'extra-human' identity in western civilization history books. And, in spite of all that we now know of his exploitative and oftentimes destructive activity with regard to the native societies he encountered, this cult-like following maintains its popularity. However, in recent years, Columbus' background and identity have been questioned, and his faith is a matter of conjecture. To many, his true spirituality has threatened all that they have held dear- nationality, faith and allegiance. With everyone vying for bragging rights regarding his final resting place, it is no small wonder that the search for his tomb continues. His love of Cuba was deeply embedded in his psyche. Perhaps he made a 'final stop' on his way back to Spain. Imagine the impact if he was 'rediscovered' after all these years.
The significance of this book is its uniqueness. First, the book contains a collection of fourteen chapters that capture the personal, professional, and historical experiences of international global scholars and artists to which they were subjected in their native country and after they immigrated to the United States. What makes this book project highly unusual in comparison to other publications is that these international global scholars and artists experienced historical events of trauma and joy in their native country and in their newly adopted country of the United States that lie deeply buried in their sub-consciousness; that these memories are unforgettable and still painful for them; that these memories are a constant companion in their daily lives; and that the experienced historical events of trauma and joy have shaped their professional and personal lives to this very day. There exists a paucity in the global education literature of this far-reaching topic and, thus, it has the potential to enhance and diversify the global education literature. Second, the significance of this book lies in the pedagogical power of the oral history narrative tradition and its impact on students at the secondary and tertiary levels in education. When one’s lived experiences of trauma or joy occur during a critical time in history, they rarely yield unforgotten memories and deeply held private knowledge that do not come to light without a storyteller. When first-hand accounts are shared publicly, they can bring powerful insights into past historic events to the very presence. Thus, the pedagogical strength of this book contributes to knowledge creation in the classroom as oral histories move students from abstract textbook descriptions to concrete and compelling “lived” stories associated with historical happenings. This pedagogy leads students to become more critical of historical events of the past and develops in them a deeper understanding of the past. Consequently, oral history narratives enable teachers and teacher educators to enrich the abstract text of textbooks with the authentic voice of the individual. A third significance of this book lies embedded in the rich historical perspective displayed by storytellers of non-native international global scholars and artists from around the world who portray their lived-through, first-hand experiences such as child labor, communism, hate, hunger, fascism, fear, intolerance, discrimination, prejudice, poverty, war, protest, and death. Finally, a major purpose of this book is to expose young learners from around the world to empowering non-native international role models in global education and the arts from nations in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Eurasia, Europe, the Middle East, and South America who build bridges—not walls—between peoples and nations.
Women in African Cinema: Beyond the Body Politic showcases the very prolific but often marginalised presence of women in African cinema, both on the screen and behind the camera. This book provides the first in-depth and sustained examination of women in African cinema. Films by women from different geographical regions are discussed in case studies that are framed by feminist theoretical and historical themes, and seen through an anti-colonial, philosophical, political and socio-cultural cinematic lens. A historical and theoretical introduction provides the context for thematic chapters exploring topics ranging from female identities, female friendships, women in revolutionary cinema, motherhood and daughterhood, women’s bodies, sexuality, and spirituality. Each chapter serves up a theoretical-historical discussion of the chosen theme, followed by two in-depth case studies that provide contextual and transnational readings of the films as well as outlining production, distribution and exhibition contexts.
