Early on, a wealthy landowner and minister of New York City, was recognized as the author of The Night Before Christmas, aka Twas The Night Before Christmas. His name was Clement Clarke Moore. However, we learn that Moore had somehow waited until after the death of a Major Henry Livingston, Jr., who lived much nearer the location in New York State, where the first account of the poem was anonymously published. We also find that the literary styles of Moore and Livingston are quite different, as well as their personalities, which in the author's opinion cast further doubt on the legitimacy of Moore as the likely author.
