DOWNLOAD EBOOKIntegral Transforms in Computational Heat and Fluid Flow is a comprehensive volume that emphasizes the generalized integral transform technique (G.I.T.T.) and the developments that have made the technique a powerful computational tool of practical interest. The book progressively demonstrates the approach through increasingly difficult extensions and test problems. It begins with an overview of the generalized integral transform technique in contrast with classical analytical ideas. Various applications are presented throughout the book, including transient fin analysis with time-dependent surface dissipation, laminar forced convection inside externally finned tubes, metals oxidation at high temperatures, forced convection in liquid metals, and Navier-Stokes equations.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKIn these proceedings from the November 2003 conference, contributors consider the computational modeling of a continuum, where the positions of its borders or interphase boundaries must also be found. They examine theory, models, methods, and applications in different research perspectives. Topics include boundary tracking, fluid structure interactions, flow-through porous media, free surface flow, phase change, phase interface phenomena, and advanced computational methods in two and three dimensions. Applications include microelectronics, medicine, and materials science. The U.S. office of WIT Press is Computational Mechanics. Annotation : 2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com).

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThis is a collection of papers by participants at High Dimensional Probability VI Meeting held from October 9-14, 2011 at the Banff International Research Station in Banff, Alberta, Canada. High Dimensional Probability (HDP) is an area of mathematics that includes the study of probability distributions and limit theorems in infinite-dimensional spaces such as Hilbert spaces and Banach spaces. The most remarkable feature of this area is that it has resulted in the creation of powerful new tools and perspectives, whose range of application has led to interactions with other areas of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. These include random matrix theory, nonparametric statistics, empirical process theory, statistical learning theory, concentration of measure phenomena, strong and weak approximations, distribution function estimation in high dimensions, combinatorial optimization, and random graph theory. The papers in this volume show that HDP theory continues to develop new tools, methods, techniques and perspectives to analyze the random phenomena. Both researchers and advanced students will find this book of great use for learning about new avenues of research.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKMany problems in mechanics involve deformable domains with moving boundaries, including fluid-structure interaction, multiphase flows, flows over soft tissues and textiles, or flows involving accretion/erosion to name but a few. The presence of a moving boundary presents considerable challenges when it comes to modelling and understanding the underlying system dynamics. This proceedings volume collects contributions made at the IUTAM Symposium on Recent Advances in Moving Boundary Problems in Mechanics held in Christchurch, New Zealand in February 2018.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThis book presents a unified view of image motion analysis under the variational framework. Variational methods, rooted in physics and mechanics, but appearing in many other domains, such as statistics, control, and computer vision, address a problem from an optimization standpoint, i.e., they formulate it as the optimization of an objective function or functional. The methods of image motion analysis described in this book use the calculus of variations to minimize (or maximize) an objective functional which transcribes all of the constraints that characterize the desired motion variables. The book addresses the four core subjects of motion analysis: Motion estimation, detection, tracking, and three-dimensional interpretation. Each topic is covered in a dedicated chapter. The presentation is prefaced by an introductory chapter which discusses the purpose of motion analysis. Further, a chapter is included which gives the basic tools and formulae related to curvature, Euler Lagrange equations, unconstrained descent optimization, and level sets, that the variational image motion processing methods use repeatedly in the book.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThe biennial Water Resources Management conference is one of the most important of several water-related conferences organised by the Wessex Institute of Technology. As water becomes an increasingly precious resource, communities all over the world Are under extreme pressure to ensure its continued adequate supply to their populations. It is therefore essential that those responsible for managing water resources share their expertise in dealing with issues of water quality, quantity, management and planning, as well as other related concerns that help or hinder sustainable management of this vital resource. In this volume, containing research on recent technological and scientific developments associated with the management of surface and sub-surface water presented at the Sixth International Conference on Water Resources Management, they do just that. The research covers: Water management and planning; Waste water treatment, management, and re-use; Markets, policies and contracts; The right to water; Urban water management; Water quality; Pollution control; Irrigation problems; River basin management; Hydraulic engineering and Hydrological modelling; Flood risk; Decision support systems; Remediation and renaturalisation; Climate change and water resources; Governance and monitoring; Regional and geo-politics of water; Economics; Water ecology; Sanitation; Wetlands; and Extreme events.
