DOWNLOAD EBOOKThe book revisits a study conducted in 1994 on subjects defined as historically disadvantaged by the apartheid regime. However, despite the ravages of that regime, these individuals had succeeded and gotten extraordinary opportunities to pursue higher education in colleges and universities in the U.S. In the study, the subjects discussed and shared their visions of South Africa as a new democracy while coming to terms with the impact of apartheid. A sample of the 1994 subjects are surveyed for this book. The author concludes that, in short, while South Africa has possibilities, several challenges remain, in particular economic challenges.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThis publication is engaged in issues, trends, and themes depicted on mosaic pavements discovered in Israel, the Gaza Strip and Petra (the provinces of ancient Palaestina Prima, Secunda and Tertia) with comparable floors in Jordan (Arabia). The majority of the mosaic pavements discussed in this study are dated to the 4th-8th centuries CE. Mosaic pavements were the normal medium for decorating the floors of synagogues, churches, monasteries, and chapels, as well as public and private buildings. Inscriptions found on many of the pavements commemorate the donors, refer to the artists, and sometimes date the mosaics. The ornamentation of the mosaics in this region is remarkable, rich, and varied in its themes and provides many insights into the contemporary artistic and social cultures.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKWhat would the Law of Moses look like if enacted by a modern-day government? This beautiful volume answers that question. For the first time, each and every provision of the Law found in Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Deuteronomy, and Numbers has been painstakingly organized and codified in a manner similar to what one would find in a modern statute book. With an excellent cross-reference table, and numerous comments and annotations, this volume is ideal for anyone interested in the ancient code of Moses. This unique statute book makes it easy to grasp the legal system handed down at Sinai. From a methodical description of how many lambs were to be sacrificed on a particular holiday, to the penalties for various crimes, to the laws on environmental protection, and provisions relating to inheritance and the family, this book contains every element of the Law of Moses. Like a modern legal code, the book is organized into 23 Titles, including a Family Code, Probate Code, Penal Code, Rules of Judicial Procedure, Business and Commerce Code, and many others. Each Title is catergorized into chapters, sections, and subsections. Never before has the Law of Moses been presented in such a clear manner. This book makes the perfect gift for a law student, a leader of bible studies, or anyone curious about this ancient body of Law that has so shaped our world.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKGuy Gavriel Kay, the international bestselling and multiple award-winning author of The Fionavar Tapestry, brings his unique storytelling imagination to an alternate Byzantine world… Sarantium is the golden city: holy to the faithful, exalted by the poets, jewel of the world and heart of an empire. Caius Crispus, known as Crispin, is a master mosaicist, creating beautiful art with colored stones and glass. Still grieving the loss of his family, he lives only for his craft—until an imperial summons draws him east to the fabled city. Bearing with him a Queen’s secret mission and seductive promise, and a talisman from an alchemist, Crispin crosses a land of pagan ritual and mortal danger, confronting legends and dark magic. Once in Sarantium, with its taverns and gilded sanctuaries, chariot races and palaces, intrigues and violence, Crispin must find his own source of power in order to survive. He finds it, unexpectedly, high on the scaffolding of his own greatest creation.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThe famous Nile Mosaic of Palestrina, ancient Praeneste in central Italy, dating to c. 100 B.C., is one of the earliest large mosaics which have been preserved from the classical world. It presents a unique, comprehensive picture of Egypt and Nubia. The interpretation of the mosaic is disputed, suggestions ranging from an exotic decoration to a topographical picture or a religious allegory. The present study demonstrates that the mosaic depicts rituals connected with Isis and Osiris and the yearly Nile flood. The presence of these Egyptian religious scenes at Praeneste can be explained by the assimilation of isis and Fortuna, the tutelary goddess of Praeneste, and by the interpretation of the mosaic as a symbol of divine providence.
