DOWNLOAD EBOOKBy introducing the superspace formalism, the methods of structure analysis of incommensurate structures have achieved in the past few years a full maturity. The superspace description is also becoming in the field of quasicrystals the main tool to approach a systematic method of structure determination of these materials. According to the program of the Workshop, these proceedings are an introduction to the formalism and practice of structure determination of modulated structures (incommensurate and commensurate) and quasiperiodic systems, mainly under the unifying framework of the superspace description. Accordingly, a large set of tutorial introductory chapters written by well-known specialists are included. The main refinement programs available for incommensurate structures are presented by their authors. The book also contains the most recent contributions from more than thirty of the participants in the Workshop, focusing on the problem of the structure analysis of these typical materials by means of diffraction methods.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThe book provides an introduction to all aspects of the physics of quasicrystals. The chapters, each written by an expert in this field, cover quasiperiodic tilings and the modeling of the atomic structure of quasicrystals. The electronic density of states and the calculation of the electronic structure play a key role in this introduction, as does an extensive discussion of the atomic dynamics. The study of defects in quasicrystals by high resolution electron microscopy and the computer simulations of defects and fracture in decorated tilings are important subjects for the application of these aperiodic crystals.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThe conference promotes the theoretical and methodological development of crystallographic investigations of aperiodic crystals including modulated structures, polytypes, incommensurate misfit or composite crystals and quasi crystals. It also promotes scientific interchange among groups working in the various fields of aperiodic materials. Special emphasis will be given to multidisciplinary aspects of aperiodicity.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThis book deals with various aspects of aperiodic crystals, quasicrystals, incommensurate crystals, composite crystals, modulated crystals and polytypes. It is mainly oriented towards crystallographic investigations and to the search for new theoretical and methodological methods aiming to model this state of matter and to understand the links between the structure and the properties. Basically multidisciplinary, the book covers many fields of aperiodic crystals, from materials science to mathematics.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKAn authoritative, updated text that offers an introduction to crystals and crystal structure with coverage of crystallography, and microscopy of materials Written in a friendly, non-mathematical style, the updated second edition of Crystals and Crystal Structures offers a comprehensive exploration of the key elements of crystals and crystal structures. Starting with the basics, it includes information on multiple areas of crystallography, including modulated structures, quasicrystals and protein crystallography, and interdisciplinary applications as diverse as the relationship between physical properties and symmetry. To enhance comprehension of the material presented, the book contains a variety of problems and exercises. The revised second edition offers new material and updates in the field including: An introduction to the use of high intensity X-ray analysis of protein structures Advances in imaging, scanning electron microscopy, and cryo-electron microscopy The relationship between symmetry and physical properties highlighting new findings and an introduction to tensor notation in describing these relationships in a concise fashion Nanoparticles as well as crystallographic aspects, defects, surface defects and the impact of these crystallographic features on properties Perovskite structures and their variations and the inclusion of their wide-ranging properties Written for students ofcrystallography, chemistry, physics, materials science, biosciences and geology, Crystals and Crystal Structures, Second Edition provides an understanding of the subject and enables students to read scientific papers and articles describing a crystal structure or use crystallographic databases.
