I wasn’t dreaming; I was visiting. I had a unicorn race with Jesus, Mary, and Jesus’ dad. Mick’s father, Mark, was stunned to hear the words from his son, who was battling cancer. He posted the story on Facebook—allowing people to intimately step inside their lives. After his son’s diagnosis, Mark had doubts and was even angry, but God stood close to him and led his family across the country seeking treatments banned in some places. Jesus gave him and his wife, Rachel, the strength to do whatever it took to save their boy. The Macholls’ need to help their son also ignited a desire to promote change and educate the world about the ineffectiveness of conventional medicine versus integrative care. They seek to spark a movement that will give parents a choice and provide hope after a grim diagnosis. The stakes for Mark and Rachel couldn’t be higher: their young son’s life. With candor, they share the ups and downs they went through during a struggle that ultimately brought them closer to God—and each other.

This is a cradle-to-grave biography of Mickey Walker, former welterweight (1922-1926) and middleweight champion (1926-1931) of the world, one of the greatest fighters in ring history. He fought at a time when boxing was a major sport with only eight championships, and he held two of them over a nine-year period. He fought at a time when each weight division was jammed with good fighters, and he fought them all from welterweight up to heavyweight, frequently being outweighed 20 to 30 pounds. Walker was also a great personality who loved life and lived it to the fullest. He was married seven times to four different women, and he cavorted with movie stars and mobsters. When his boxing career ended in 1935, Walker ran saloons in various locations and eventually became an artist of some standing. He died in 1981 at age 79.

"There is no easy way to say this, so I am just going to say it. Your son has cancer". With those words we instantly became members of a club no parent wants to belong too. The club of; Parents who have a Child with Cancer. However, over the course of our family's journey fighting this disease we came to realize what a special club we had become a part of and how many wonderful people are associated with it. We experienced wonderful days and scary days. Days filled with tears of joy and laughter and days filled with tears of fear and sadness. Along the way though we grew as a family and learned to treasure each moment that God gives us and to do our best to live in that moment. We learned to trust in God and His plan for us and to lean on His will and not our own. We took care of each other, friends and family and life went on as we fought the terrible illness that had attacked our son and our family. "bradyspowers" is a record of that journey and fight. Through it all the Mickey Family never quits and each day ends with "To be continued" because nothing ever really ends and there is always the next new dawn. "Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34

In this latest addition to Oxford's Modernist Literature & Culture series, renowned modernist scholar Michael North poses fundamental questions about the relationship between modernity and comic form in film, animation, the visual arts, and literature. Machine-Age Comedy vividly constructs a cultural history that spans the entire twentieth century, showing how changes wrought by industrialization have forever altered the comic mode. With keen analyses, North examines the work of a wide range of artists--including Charlie Chaplin, Walt Disney, Marcel Duchamp, Samuel Beckett, and David Foster Wallace--to show the creative and unconventional ways the routinization of industrial society has been explored in a broad array of cultural forms. Throughout, North argues that modern writers and artists found something inherently comic in new experiences of repetition associated with, enforced by, and made inevitable by the machine age. Ultimately, this rich, tightly focused study offers a new lens for understanding the devlopment of comedic structures during periods of massive social, political, and cultural change to reveal how the original promise of modern life can be extracted from its practical disappointment.
