DOWNLOAD EBOOKThis book is designed to serve as a core text for courses in advanced engineering mathematics required by many engineering departments. The style of presentation is such that the student, with a minimum of assistance, can follow the step-by-step derivations. Liberal use of examples and homework problems aid the student in the study of the topics presented. Ordinary differential equations, including a number of physical applications, are reviewed in Chapter One. The use of series methods are presented in Chapter Two, Subsequent chapters present Laplace transforms, matrix theory and applications, vector analysis, Fourier series and transforms, partial differential equations, numerical methods using finite differences, complex variables, and wavelets. The material is presented so that four or five subjects can be covered in a single course, depending on the topics chosen and the completeness of coverage. Incorporated in this textbook is the use of certain computer software packages. Short tutorials on Maple, demonstrating how problems in engineering mathematics can be solved with a computer algebra system, are included in most sections of the text. Problems have been identified at the end of sections to be solved specifically with Maple, and there are computer laboratory activities, which are more difficult problems designed for Maple. In addition, MATLAB and Excel have been included in the solution of problems in several of the chapters. There is a solutions manual available for those who select the text for their course. This text can be used in two semesters of engineering mathematics. The many helpful features make the text relatively easy to use in the classroom.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKMathematical demography is the centerpiece of quantitative social science. The founding works of this field from Roman times to the late Twentieth Century are collected here, in a new edition of a classic work by David R. Smith and Nathan Keyfitz. Commentaries by Smith and Keyfitz have been brought up to date and extended by Kenneth Wachter and Hervé Le Bras, giving a synoptic picture of the leading achievements in formal population studies. Like the original collection, this new edition constitutes an indispensable source for students and scientists alike, and illustrates the deep roots and continuing vitality of mathematical demography.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKWith the inclusion of applications of singular value decomposition (SVD) and principal component analysis (PCA) to image compression and data analysis, this edition provides a strong foundation of linear algebra needed for a higher study in signal processing. The use of MATLAB in the study of linear algebra for a variety of computational purposes and the programmes provided in this text are the most attractive features of this book which strikingly distinguishes it from the existing linear algebra books needed as pre-requisites for the study of engineering subjects. This book is highly suitable for undergraduate as well as postgraduate students of mathematics, statistics, and all engineering disciplines. The book will also be useful to Ph.D. students for relevant mathematical resources.NEW TO THIS EDITION The Third Edition of this book includes: • Simultaneous diagonalization of two diagonalizable matrices • Comprehensive exposition of SVD with applications in shear analysis in engineering • Polar Decomposition of a matrix • Numerical experimentation with a colour and a black-and-white image compression using MATLAB • PCA methods of data analysis and image compression with a list of MATLAB codes

DOWNLOAD EBOOKRobert Steinberg's Lectures on Chevalley Groups were delivered and written during the author's sabbatical visit to Yale University in the 1967–1968 academic year. The work presents the status of the theory of Chevalley groups as it was in the mid-1960s. Much of this material was instrumental in many areas of mathematics, in particular in the theory of algebraic groups and in the subsequent classification of finite groups. This posthumous edition incorporates additions and corrections prepared by the author during his retirement, including a new introductory chapter. A bibliography and editorial notes have also been added.
