Mathias Hook came to Pennsylvania from Maryland in the early 1780s. He was born about 1747. He bought and sold land throughout the area and also had transactions in Brooke county, Virginia. Hookstown, Pennsylvania was named after Mathias Hook. He died on 27 April 1836 at the age of 89. His wife Catherine died sometime before he did. They were parents of fifteen children. Descendants live in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and elsewhere.

Daniel Mathias Sr. (ca. 1734/1750-1829) immigrated from Germany to West- moreland County, Pennsylvania, and married twice (once in Germany) He served in the Revolutionary War, and moved in 1806 to Stark County, Ohio. John Stull was probably born in Germany between 1680-1700. He immigrated to America before 1725. He and his wife, Martha, had ten children. The first four were probably born in Pennsylvania, the others in Prince George's County, Maryland. He was the first permanent German settler west of Frederick County, Maryland. Descendants lived in Maryland, Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, Texas, Arkansas and elsewhere.
