This book is about how the dreams of exploring other worlds became a reality with the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo programs. The problems encountered in the development of the spacecraft, including the disastrous fire aboard Apollo 1 which resulted in the deaths of the three American astronauts, Gus Grissom, Ed White and Roger Chafee are covered. When Neil Armstrong stepped out onto the surface of the Moon on 20 July 1969, many people thought that this was the first time man had visited its nearest neighbor. Although this was the first manned landing, there had been forty-one missions prior to this by both the Americans and the Russians. This book is about all those missions and the sixty-five missions that followed. Also included, although in much lesser detail, is the part the Russians played in the formative years of the ‘space race’ and the problems they encountered, culminating in the successful Apollo/Soyuz program which proved that the two super-powers could work together. The laboratory in the sky, Skylab, the forerunner of the ISS station is also covered. The book contains over 200 photographs, all of which are either credited to NASA or from the author's own collection. The sources include correspondence and the author's personal conversations with some of the astronauts involved in the early part of the space program.

As a child I was fascinated by the Apollo Moon missions. As I got older the fascination never waned, until, approximately 15 years ago, I happened to watch a documentary on one of the Apollo missions. In that they discussed the method used for circumnavigating the Moon during the missions. As a trained pilot I remember questioning that method of navigation and from there I started to doubt the validity of the Apollo Moon missions itself, which led to subsequent years of research. This book is culmination of that research and the reasons why I believe that the Apollo Moon missions were faked. Included in Part 1 of this series I discuss the following key factors:  The Saturn V rocket and the fraudulent claims on the powerful F-1 engines, without which the Apollo landings could not have taken place.  The non-existent capabilities of the Apollo guidance computer and the fact that this computer was a fake.  The conflicting and contradictory information regarding the radiation intensity between the Earth and Moon which would have prevented any manned lunar landing.  The inadequate shielding for both the Command Module and Lunar Module which would have ended any manned mission outside of Low Earth Orbit in a matter of minutes if not seconds.  And the incomplete, missing and/or destroyed documents along with the thousands of missing reels of telemetry tapes containing data that has been 'lost' forever

It was February 1966. A Saturn V rocket began a suborbital unmanned test flight with the Apollo Command Module for the first time. A Saturn Orbital test flight followed, without the Apollo Spaceship, in July 1966; a further flight with the Apollo Command Module took off in August 1966. The Saturn Rocket Vehicle was developed by the scientists and technicians of the Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) under the direction of Dr. Wernher von Braun for the NASA in the context of the Apollo program. This rocket type is one of the most efficient systems ever built. Research of rocket systems reaches back far to the beginning of the nineteen fifties. Long was the way till the first man could step on the moon. The Apollo program suffered a large setback when three astronauts, Virgil Grissom, Edward H. White and Roger B. Chaffee, were killed by flames during a routine training exercise in their command module. Extensive modifications of the command module and the safety systems were the consequence of this catastrophe. This test on January 27, 1967, retroactively received the name Apollo 1. Six years after John F. Kennedy had announced the race to the moon, these were the beginnings of the Apollo program, and this was the prelude to the great finale of the way to the moon. This book shows the story of this journey.
