DOWNLOAD EBOOKUnlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made available for future generations to enjoy.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKExcerpt from The Life of John Duncan Scotch Weaver and Botanist: With Sketches of His Friends and Notices of the Times This is the simple tale of the aged botanical weaver of whom some account was given in Good Words of 1878, since reprinted, in 1880, in H. A. Page's Leaders of Men. His pitiful case, when he was compelled to fall on the parish through no fault of his, was also brought before the country by the author in January, 188 I. The appeal then made was generously responded to by spontaneous contri butions from admirers in all parts, including Her Majesty the Queen; general interest was roused in the man; his case was advocated 'by the press, not excepting our highest journals; and accounts of him appeared in various places, notably in Nature, which warmly espoused his claims and gathered subscriptions.
