L'aurore conduit le cheval blanc l' oeil des dieux VII, 77, 3, c'est - a - dire precede le soleil qui, lorsqu'il brille a l'orient, parait sortir de l'aurore, I, 121, 6, ou, selon l'expression deja plus caracteristique du vers VII, 63, 3, du sein des aurores. On a donc dit de l'aurore, non seulement qu'elle enfante la lumiere, III, 61, 4, mais qu'elle fait briller, VII, 80, 2, et, en propres termes, qu'elle enfante le soleil, VII, 78, 3. Fils de l'aurore, le soleil est aussi son amant et son epoux. D'abord il la poursuit, 1, 56, 4; IX, 84, 2, comme un homme qui poursuit une femme, I, 115, 2. Puis ses rayons s'unissent a ceux de l'aurore, VIII,9, 18 X, 111, 7, of. 1, 123, 12; 124, 8; 137, 2; VII, 91, 1; X, 35, 5. Aux vers 11 et 12 de l'hymne I, 92 a l'aurore, il est dit tour a tour qu'elle brille avec l'eclat de sp amant et qu'elle apparait avec les rayons du soleil Ces deux formules sont evidemment equivalentes. Quand on dit qu'elle vient du meme lieu que son amant, VII, 76, 3, il est clair que cet amant ne peut etre encore que le soleil. J'en dirai autant de l' amant de l'aurore auquel 'agni est compare pour son eclat, I, 69, 1 et 9; VII, 10, 1, of. 2. Enfin l'aurore est appelee expressement I' epouse du soleil VII, 75, 5.
