DOWNLOAD EBOOKThe composition of Italian household wealth has undergone significant changes in the last decade, partly reflecting the growth of public debt and monetary policies aimed at encouraging its absorption by the household sector. Within a theoretical framework consistent with the “money in the utility function” approach, this paper investigates household preferences for liquidity services provided by short-term financial assets. In the attempt to explain the factors underlying those changes, the empirical analysis provides information on the pattern of substitution for the main components of financial wealth and permits analysis of a variety of government interventions in asset markets.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKMigration provides a sort of natural experiment which permits comparisons of disease risk in populations or similar genetic background living in different environments. Many countries worldwide have large communities of Italian origin as a result of the emigration of some 26 million people from Italy over the last 100 years. This volume reports data from each of nine host countries for which cancer incidence or mortality data are available by country of birth, and compares them with the local-born in those countries and with the population that remained in Italy. Where possible, the data are also analyzed by duration of stay in the host country and/or age at arrival, and comments are made on possible environmental causes for the changes observed.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThe immunity or exemption enjoyed by States from legal proceedings before foreign national courts is a crucial area of international law. On the basis of an exhaustive analysis of judicial decisions, international treaties, national legislation, government statements, deliberations in international organisations as well as scholarly opinion, Xiaodong Yang traces the historical development of the relevant doctrine and practice, critically analyses the rationale for restrictive immunity and closely inspects such important exceptions to immunity as commercial transactions, contracts of employment, tortious liability, separate entities, the enforcement of judgments, waiver of immunity and the interplay between State immunity and human rights. The book draws a full picture of the law of State immunity as it currently stands and endeavours to provide useful information and guidance for practitioners, academics and students alike.
