Ironically, after continually engaging in rigorous research on the topic of clergy sexual misconduct and abuse, another hideous sex scandal of an alleged religious cult leader was exposed on social media by gospel recording artist Vicki Yohe. While it is untrue that the president has returned Jesus to the White House, thankfully, God is revealing his truth about the narcissistic men who are master manipulators of evil deeds that destroy lives, specifically women’s. As a matter of fact, I feel that this perverted spirit is invading society from the White House (Trump), to the church house (Taylor), to the world (RKelly). How can I help in the destruction of these works of iniquity? How can I become another voice to sound the alarm in these vile, violent acts of sexual misconduct and abuse? As I prayed and inquired to God, while agonizing over the magnitude of this calamity, my doctoral dissertation became the birthing process of this book. This is a good place to publicly thank the cofounder / vice president / CEO of the Hope of Survivors, Samantha Nelson, for being a very active participant during my research plan. When she immediately agreed to write the foreword for this book, I was confident that the timing was right. A couple of days later, as budgeting was my next concern, my spiritual mother unexpectedly wrote the Twin Ministries a check that was enough to cover half of the cost of funding the publishing expense. I instantly interrupted the flow of working on other forthcoming projects to obey the leading of the Holy Spirit. Hence, I pray that this book will have a profound impact on the body of Christ by bringing pastoral accountability to its leaders, public awareness to the community, and personal amendments to victims and their families. To say the least, the church must not only deal with salvation and deliverance; as a community, we must perpetuate prevention and intervention! No more silence of the lamb! Thus, if you are part of the remnant of believers whom God is raising to be a new example of irreproachable transparency and integrity in business, ministry, and marriage, please share, share, and share!

Is your church prepared to care for individuals who have experienced various forms of abuse? As we continue to learn of more individuals experiencing sexual abuse, domestic violence, and other forms of abuse, it’s clear that resources are needed to help ministries and leaders care for these individuals with love, support, and in cooperation with civil authorities. This handbook seeks to help the church take a significant step forward in its care for those who have been abused. Working in tandem with the Church Cares resources and videos, this handbook brings together leading evangelical trauma counselors, victim advocates, social workers, attorneys, batterer interventionists, and survivors to equip pastors and ministry leaders for the appropriate initial responses to a variety of abuse scenarios in churches, schools, or ministries. Though the most comprehensive training is experienced by using this handbook and the videos together, readers who may be unable to access the videos can use this handbook as a stand-alone resource.

The thrill of the earth experience is the reconnection of two spirits that were created as one. If the man ultimately marries the feminine side of himself, and the woman marries the masculine side of herself, they would refuse to ever be without the other. You can only divorce someone that you were never one with, to begin with. Wherefore, if you were one, how could you even contemplate divorcing yourself? As noted by my publicist, “basically, you have made it clear what you are interested in, what you look to avoid, and what you’re hoping to instill as it relates to the interconnection and compatibility of individuals.” Since my life is more about ministry, I choose to quietly and patiently, wait on “purpose.” Boaz or “No-az,” “that’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.” Prepare for a lot of transparent moments, and many profound nuggets. Entertainingly so, my writings are uniquely colored by both comedic relief, “reality shows,” and even commentary that may sound overstated or distasteful in your opinion. Even as I am unapologetic in my writing approach, you might want to brace yourself for an engaging “ride” and an intriguing read, as this will likely be one of the most “blackish” books that you have ever read.

Gender, Violence, and Justice is a volume of collected essays by an expert in the field of violence against women and pastoral theology. It represents over three decades of research, advocacy, and pastoral theological reflection on the subject of sexual and domestic violence. Topics include intimate partner violence, sexual abuse and trauma, and clergy sexual misconduct; controversial theological issues such as forgiveness; and, as well, positive frameworks for fostering well-being in families, church, and society. Framed by a foreword and an introduction that place this work in the context of new and contemporary challenges in theory and practice, these essays show an evolution of issues and frameworks for theology, care, and activism arising over time from the movement to end violence against women (both within and beyond religious communities)--while at the same time demonstrating an unchanging core commitment to gender justice.

The sexual exploitation of a child by one who has been recognized as a representative of God is a sinister assault on that person’s psychosocial and spiritual well-being. Many survivors of such abuse present with a range of symptoms consistent with Posttraumatic Stress Disorder as well as common co-occurring problems, including substance abuse, affective lability, and relational conflicts. Yet there are additional themes, particularly the impact of the abuse and institutional betrayal on the family, profound alteration in individual spirituality, and changes in individual and family religious practices, which differentiate this abuse from other traumas. Understanding the profound and multidimensional effects of clergy perpetrated sexual abuse and the betrayal of trust by religious leaders on individuals, families and communities requires the collective wisdom of many voices. Power has a God-given role in human relationships and institutions, but it can lead to abuse when used in unhealthy ways. Speaking into current #MeToo and #ChurchToo conversations, this book shows that the body of Christ desperately needs to understand the forms power takes, how it is abused, and how to respond to abuses of power. Although many Christians want to prevent abuse in their churches and organizations, they lack a deep and clear-eyed understanding of how power actually works. Internationally recognized psychologist Diane Langberg offers a clinical and theological framework for understanding how power operates, the effects of the abuse of power, and how power can be redeemed and restored to its proper God-given place in relationships and institutions. This book not only helps Christian leaders identify and resist abusive systems but also shows how they can use power to protect the vulnerable in their midst.
