Excerpt from How to Treat the Sick Without Medicine N ow, in the nature of the case, there is no reason in this view, nor can there be any justification for such an intellectual relation to it. God has made the human frame in such a way that it is not difficult to under stand and largely comprehend the leading principles upon which its healthful management depends. The laws of health and life are so related in the understand ing of them to human consciousness that any human being may so far appreciate them, as, by following them, to keep in health, or, in other Words, not to be sick. Excerpt from The Treatment of the Sick: A System of Applied Therapeutics But beyond these few well-tried remedies there is a vast number that occupy debatable ground. These are newly-introduced drugs or therapeutic agencies that are as yet upon trial. They have been brought forward as improvements upon former methods. Some of these will be found to justify the claims made in their behalf, while others will be found wanting. In the same 'category may be placed the new uses suggested for old remedies. To leave out this class would be to cut away the growing buds from the therapeutical tree. Some degree of faith is requisite, to see the future fruit to be borne upon these twigs, although some of them will assuredly be blasted. Excerpt from Crumbs of Comfort: How to Cure the Sick There can be no objection to introduce this volume with a text. He that careth not for his own household, isworse than an infidel. - Bible. There is a gospel of health just as trulyas there is a gospel of salvation, and he who ignores the former should forfeit the latter. The gospel of hygiene and sanitation in a sick room, and surrounding a sick person, is much more important in its relation to recovery than the administrations offered by the most skilled physician. When sickness comes to a household, the first consideration which should engage the attention of the family and the physician alike should be proper surroundings and careful nursing for the sick one. In view of these facts I will introduce this volume by some considerations which I deem important for the care of the sick. Excerpt from Rational Therapy As a teacher of graduates, I have been impressed with the dissatisfaction existing with the state of Therapeutics, which appears to most physicians chaotic. I have tried in this book to give a guide in the treatment of the sick by emphasizing that blood alone cures, and that all methods used to treat disease must serve to purify it, and bring it where it is needed. I have discussed the various therapeutic methods with this idea in View and have given the essentials of each, enough I believe, for immediate use, and to serve as an introduction to special works, which the book is not intended to replace. To accomplish this, each chapter had to be short, an outline only of the vast material it represents. This applies especially to the one on drugs, almost sketchy in character, yet like the others, contain ing the essentials of this method of treatment. It has been my aim to make this book useful for every day practice. The healing force of Nature has been explained in the Intro duction. The chapter on Fresh Air contains an outline of the treatment with Air Bath, Sun Bath and Climate. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
