What do Latinos do when we feel insecure? We laugh and make fun of ourselves. This book uses humor and comedic paradoxes to describe my smitten yet complicated relationship with food and fitness. I probably tried every diet out there including Paleo, South Beach, Atkins and Keto. Now I do the Latino Keto diet, I eat Un-Poc-Keto de todo! The book discusses health and wellness from my personal perspective which have been influenced by my family and very Latina upbringing. Fat phobia is real, and Latinos give it to you straight. Hence, I deconstruct the term "gordita" and fully embrace it! After years of battling with food addiction, failed diets, and negative coping mechanisms such as alcohol, I did a 180° and decided enough was enough. For years, I fed into this lie and struggled with my body image all my life. I would wake up everyday thinking that I wasn't good enough. I'm sure you've heard this story many times before, but I am making it my life's work to empower all womyn to unapologetically embrace every aspect of themselves. I am sick of society capitalizing off the insecurities of womyn. This movement and book are revolutionary and my desire is to build something bigger than myself. This book embodies various parts of my Latinx identity and tackles issues such as mental health in the Latinx community, complicated relationships with food, and my ultimate favorite self-care practices such as travel and dance. My mission is to challenge traditional ideas behind the diet & fitness industry and create a dialogue and acceptance around radical body positivity.

Taking inspiration from the surrealists, and adding a twist of twenty-first-century technology and a love of good food, photographer Jan Bartelsman turns his lenses on the United States' star chefs, traveling from coast to coast to photograph, interview, and collect recipes from such culinary luminaries as Julia Child, Thomas Keller, Charlie Trotter, and Daniel Boulud. Bartelsman captures each chef's unique personality in hand-tinted photomontages enhanced by fanciful digitally generated elements to create a gallery that Food Arts magazine calls "fresh and spontaneous." Baby carrots rain down on Jean-Georges Vongerichten as he stands against the Manhattan skyline. Dancer-graceful Suzanne Goin strikes a pose with a Martha Graham-inspired carrot. The chefs' recipes and comments are as lively as their portraits. Ming Tsai spices lobster with garlic and pepper, and serves it with lemongrass fried rice; Lydia Shire's gorgonzola dolce ravioli are paired with roasted summer peaches. This book is truly a delectable dish, the complexity and taste of which readers can savor for years to come.

A pioneer of Chicano rock, Rubén Funkahuatl Guevara performed with Frank Zappa, Johnny Otis, Bo Diddley, Tina Turner, and Celia Cruz, though he is best known as the front man of the 1970s experimental rock band Ruben And The Jets. Here he recounts how his youthful experiences in the barrio La Veinte of Santa Monica in the 1940s prepared him for early success in music and how his triumphs and seductive brushes with stardom were met with tragedy and crushing disappointments. Brutally honest and open, Confessions of a Radical Chicano Doo-Wop Singer is an often hilarious and self-critical look inside the struggle of becoming an artist and a man. Recognizing racial identity as composite, contested, and complex, Guevara—an American artist of Mexican descent—embraces a Chicano identity of his own design, calling himself a Chicano “culture sculptor” who has worked to transform the aspirations, alienations, and indignities of the Mexican American people into an aesthetic experience that could point the way to liberation.
