The large tonnage Galore Creek alkaline porphyry copper-gold-silver deposit is located within the area mapped. Results of regional mapping and sampling in 1988 are summarized in the report. This report and accompanying maps incorporates new data and revisions to the 1:50 000 geology and mineral occurrence map. The project was conducted to produce detailed geological maps and a database better able to understand the Galore Creek area and aid in making new discoveries.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThe Pinchi Lake regional lake sediment and water geochemistry survey described in this report covers an area of perceived high mineral potential in a region where exploration has previously been limited by extensive drift cover, poor exposures, and an insufficient geological database. Survey investigators collected lake sediments and waters from 413 sites in the study area and analyzed for 15 elements by atomic absorption spectroscopy and for a further 25 elements by instrumental neutron activation analysis. This report describes the survey areas (location, access, physiography, surficial and bedrock geology, mineral deposits), survey methodology, and quality control procedures, and presents a preliminary interpretation of the data obtained, notably for gold. New areas for prospective porphyry-style gold/copper and molybdenum deposits are outlined, and recommendations are provided for gold exploration in the study area. Appendices contain analytical data.

The identification of bedrock source areas for the placer gold and definition of the various mineral deposit types in this region are the main objectives of this field study. The area is divided into two regions of differing structural style by a major thrust fault running along Cowichan Lake. This report introduces the geological setting of the areas and describes its lithology and stratigraphy, structure and tectonics from the Late Devonian to the Eocene, and the metamorphism and alteration of the area's sedimentary and igneous formations. The final section of the report reviews the history of mineral exploration in the area, outlines the regional metallogeny, and classifies the mineral deposits found in the area. The appendices include tabulated data, descriptions of mineral occurrences and fossils, and a summary of assessment report work recorded within the area.
