The Chimes Tower structure was a seven-story structure constructed of rolled steel sections bolted and/or riveted together. The structure was 9 feet- 3-3/8 inches square and 86 feet-8 inches tall. All floors had a uniform height of 12 feet except the top story, which was 14 feet-8 inches high. Dynamic tests were conducted on this structure to determine: Natural frequencies and mode shapes, and to compare results with values predicted theoretically; Degree of damping; Participation of the foundation in motion of the tower. Static tests were also conducted on the structure to: Allow comparisons of floor deflections and foundation motion with those observed during the dynamic tests. (Author).
