Master's Thesis from the year 2014 in the subject Business economics - Controlling, grade: 1,7, University of Applied Sciences Fulda, course: Master of International Management, language: English, abstract: According to the estimations of the World Trade Organization, sixty percent of the whole world trade is being concluded within the multinational enterprises. This can be put down to the fact that globalization has had led the enterprises separate business processes into divisions and the concept of “profit center” has gained currency in this regard. As a result of “vertical integration” between these profit centers, there is an enormous volume of exchanged goods within multinationals. This development in the practice gave rise to debates on an already existing issue, “Transfer Pricing”, however, from another dimension. The inter-company transfer of goods has gone beyond the domestic boundaries, and become an important issue in the international context. International Transfer Pricing can be assumed as an opportunity as well as a confounding factor from the perspective of multinational enterprises. On the one side, it is possible to move profits between individual divisions and create tax advantages depending on the corporate tax rates in different tax jurisdictions. On the other side, it becomes more complex for companies to track down the effects of intra-company transfers, evaluate the efficiency of the divisions and the company as a whole and make optimal decisions accordingly. At this point, some academicians propose using a multiple set of books to determine Transfer Prices. In so doing, they argue that managerial requirements can be met and optimal decisions can be reached for the good of the group as a whole. In the light of this information, a software product named SAP® ERP® comes to attention with its unique feature in terms of determining Transfer Prices flexibly. The multiple valuation approach in this system enables the user set Transfer Prices in different valuation techniques, i.e. legal view, group view and profit center view. This study investigates the relationship between these two research objects; thus, aims to verify whether and up to which extent implementing such a system is functional and beneficial by composing Transfer Pricing and managerial requirements that come along with it.

SAP ERP modules are notoriously hard to configure and use effectively without a lot of practice and experience. But as SAP ERP Financial Accounting and Controlling: Configuration and Use Management shows, it doesn't have to be so difficult. The book takes a systematic approach that leads SAP Financial Accounting and Controlling (FICO) users step by step through configuring and using all the program’s facets. This approach makes configuration complexities manageable. The book’s author—SAP expert, trainer, and accountant Andrew Okungbowa—ensures that both you and your end users are up and running quickly and confidently with FICO. He also provides sound and tested procedures that ensure your implementation works without error. SAP ERP Financial Accounting and Controlling: Configuration and Use Management is in fact the most comprehensive and easy-to-follow SAP FICO configuration book in the market. It incorporates a hands-on approach, with hundreds of screen shots and practical examples, that allows a person without prior configuration training to make SAP FICO ready for use in the enterprise. You’ll find that you don’t need to be a rocket scientist to grasp the concepts explained and apply them to your work—even when the finances are complicated, such as with the ins and outs of taxes, currency conversions, or special general ledger entries such as down payments or bills of exchange. Providing an in-depth coverage of both configuration and end user procedures, the book covers most aspects of the SAP FICO certification syllabus—SAP’s view of the module’s key tasks and procedures—including: Configuring and using the general ledger and accounts payable and receivable screens Configuring and completing closing procedures, asset accounting, and financial reporting Configuring global settings and enterprise variables Accounting for both profit and cost centers Creating a house bank Integrating FICO with other SAP modules Taking a jargon-free tone and providing an abundance of examples, Andrew Okungbowa provides a clear understanding of configuration techniques and the breadth of functionalities encompassed by SAP FICO. And as an accountant, Okungbowa understands the needs of end users as well as of those answering to the CIO.

Transfer pricing treatment of intangibles: Issues und developments In recent decades, intangibles have become one of the most relevant success factors for Multinational Enterprises (MNEs). Along with the increasing importance of intangibles for economies, their tax treatment has also been under scrutiny which includes inter alia respective transfer pricing issues. MNEs are seeking for the best ways to optimize their business arrangements with the related intangibles while, at the same time, getting the most tax-efficient treatment. On the other hand, tax authorities have become increasingly concerned with the ease that intangibles can be used in aggressive planning. These concerns have been noticed and addressed by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development which presented its main findings with respect to transfer pricing aspects of intangibles in Action 8 of the BEPS Project in 2015 and in the 2017 OECD Transfer Pricing Guidelines. This book is based on the outcomes of the presentations and discussions held during the WU Transfer Pricing Symposium, ‘Transfer Pricing and Intangibles: Current Developments, Relevant Issues and Possible Solutions’, that took place in October 2018 at the WU Vienna University of Economics and Business. The publication discusses the most important issues and recent developments related to transfer pricing treatment of intangibles. Starting with the definition of intangibles, it further deals with topics such as appropriate attribution of intangible-related profits, structuring of intangibles in MNEs, and proper valuation of intangibles. The authors, apart from providing a theoretical background to the discussed issues, also present case studies that show how certain issues can be approached in practice. Every chapter ends with a summary of the discussions held during the panels of the Transfer Pricing Symposium in which representatives of tax administrations, multinationals, and tax advisories presented their opinions on the issues at stake.

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) refers to large commercial software packages that promise a seamless integration of information flow through an organization by combining various sources of information into a single software application and a single database. The outcome of ERP itself is still a mystery, but the trends and issues it has created will be the enigma that future generations will have to solve. Traditionally, separate units were created within an organization to carry out various tasks, and these functional areas would create their own information systems thereby giving rise to systems that were not integrated. ERP strives to provide a solution to these problems. Enterprise Resource Planning Solutions and Management examines the issues that need to be further studied and better understood to ensure successful implementation and deployment of ERP systems.

The recent decades have witnessed many ERP failures attributable to a plethora of mistakes, and the author writes this book aiming to correct these malpractices concerning ERP adoption. The author presents an adoption methodology, called the Full Lifecycle ERP Adoption Reference (FLEAR) model, to promote holistic project management. Furthermore, from a holistic perspective, successful ERP adoption cannot be achieved in isolation of other business and organizational issues such as IT-business strategic alignment, IT governance, change management, and business process changes. Unlike many ERP books in the market which cover mostly technical deployment issues, this book also addresses the aforesaid business-related issues. Theoretical discussions are supported by extensive research, and practical experience drawn from North American and international contexts to benefit practitioners involved in international assignments. Thus, this book will benefit not only MIS personnel, but also non-technical business practitioners. It will also be a useful supplement for university-level MIS and business process management courses.
