Increased flood damages in the Red River of the North prompted investigations into the probable causes of increased flood severity. Increased flooding may be related to the recently common practice of installing agricultural drain tiles and ditches. This study evaluates thirteen hydrologic models to determine which are best suited to the analysis of the causes of increased flooding. Three models, the Hydrocomp Simulation Program Fortran version (HSPF), the Runoff and Routing model (RROUT) and the Minnesota Model for Depressional Storage (MMDW) hold the greatest promise.
