Located on 380 acres on the Nassau-Suffolk border, Farmingdale State College (FSC) is the oldest public college on Long Island. In this fascinating and lavishly illustrated history, Frank J. Cavaioli chronicles the school's rich history from the time it was chartered in 1912 up to the present. He investigates the leadership of such important directors and presidents as Albert A. Johnson, Halsey B. Knapp, Charles W. Laffin Jr., and Frank A. Cipriani, and demonstrates how they motivated faculty to create progressive, innovative programs, and urged them to give service to the community. The school's original mission was to provide training in agricultural science, but over time it has transformed into a comprehensive college focused on applied science and technology with a strong humanities and social science component. Now a campus of the State University of New York with nearly seven thousand students, the story of FSC is unique, one that mirrors the transformation and growth of the surrounding Long Island community.

The State University of New York at Farmingdale is the oldest public college on Long Island. Chartered in 1912 as the New York State School of Agriculture, its growth has reflected the Long Island regions transition from rural to suburban and from agriculture to high technology. Its more than 50,000 alumni have achieved distinction in the public and private sectors of society. The college has contributed to the high socioeconomic status of Long Islands 2.7 million people (Nassau and Suffolk Counties), as well as to the rest of New York State. The State University of New York at Farmingdale presents more than two hundred photographs accompanied by detailed narrative that capture the memorable events of SUNY Farmingdale. This fascinating story presents a snapshot of a period of local history that no longer exists. It features leaders such as Halsey B. Knapp, the director who shaped the destiny of the college; David W. Allee, who helped set up the first technical education programs; Charles W. Laffin, a president who presided during the years of great social change; and Frank A. Cipriani, a president whose innovations prepared the way for the new millennium through the establishment of bachelor of science degrees in technical education.

Tova Navarra's new visual history of Howell and Farmingdale presents a wealth of vintage images and carefully researched information on the area's past. The book's focus on the social and cultural aspects of Howell's history is particularly appropriate, given the remarkable ethnic diversity of the region. Howell is a vibrant and unique New Jersey community whose character and heritage are lovingly conveyed by this resident author. At once rural and suburban, contemplative and yet very active, Howell is today an intriguing mixture of old and new. Age-old churches and Buddhist temples stand near a dualized highway and large department stores, and an experimental theater company flourishes in the midst of horse, chicken, and sheep farms. The development of Howell's numerous cultural, social, commercial, and religious institutions is documented here in an interesting and informative manner.

Farmingdale, located in west-central Long Island on both sides of the Nassau-Suffolk County border, was an important center of airplane manufacturing from the First World War until almost the end of the Cold War. Aviation pioneers like Lawrence Sperry, Sherman Fairchild, Leroy Grumman, Alexander de Seversky, and Alexander Kartveli directed the manufacture of aircraft, aircraft engines, and key subassemblies as they evolved from the propeller, biplane era to the jet and space age. Farmingdale witnessed the creation of such cutting-edge aircraft as the Sperry Triplane Amphibian and Messenger; the Fairchild FC-2; the Grumman FF-1, JF-1 Duck, and G-22 Gulfhawk; the Seversky P-35; the Republic Aviation P-47, F-84, and F-105; and the Fairchild Republic space shuttle tails and A-10 Warthog. Airplane manufacturing in Farmingdale ended in 1987 with the demise of Fairchild Republic, but this book offers a comprehensive pictorial history of the outstanding achievements of so many talented men and women over seven decades.

A Game of Chances Two men, too many secrets, and even more situations trying to keep them apart. Can love really conquer all? A meeting brought on by seeming coincidence throws Marcus and Tanner together. After becoming friends, certain truths are revealed, leading to feelings of betrayal as well as a degree of danger. Tanner has more secrets than one man ever should, not the least of which is that he's an operative for a gray-ops organisation that's something of a family business. Sharing even that much information could kill more than just his friendship with Marcus. When one misstep on Tanner's part plants possible danger in Marcus' lap, he does what he needs to do. Marcus doesn't know that Tanner is after the man Marcus used to date, but he for damned sure finds out, and that's just the start of things. When a computer disc and men with guns come into play, Marcus has some decisions to make. Like whether he can forgive Tanner for making him love a lie... and how far Marcus is willing to go to secure his own happiness. A Game of Skills A lot of things happen within the confines of a grey-ops organisation whose services are offered to the highest bidder. Sometimes even love, though that may well be easier said than done. The last thing Simon is expecting when his latest Game goes thoroughly wrong is to be rescued by a man he doesn't know and an oddly intelligent child, but that's exactly what happens. He's pulled from the proverbial fire by the strange duo. That would have been fine if he hadn't developed some unexpected and unwelcome attraction to the man, Morgan. Morgan's been running for years, trying to keep his best friend, Ellie's, child from the clutches of what he's sure is a group Rico wants no part of. Helping Simon is barely tolerable. Developing feelings for the secretive man is less so. Between Simon's organisation, the Farmingdale Gentleman's Club, and whoever's after Rico, Morgan's pretty sure that he and Rico are screwed. When things come to a head, he has to make some hard choices, which might or might not involve Simon. A Game of Hearts What's the difference between a fling and a relationship? Three spies are about to find out. Morgan and Simon are settled and happy together, or as much as they can be given their high-octane positions as operatives of the Farmingdale Gentleman's Club. So why are they both having unexpected longings and thoughts about their teammate, River? Sure, he's gorgeous but he's a bit of a player, and neither Simon nor Morgan are willing to risk their relationship on a fling. Try as he might, River can't seem to resist his attraction to his team leader, Simon, or Simon's mate, Morgan. He also can't quite let himself intrude on their relationship until he receives a rather unique offer from the two men. It's a fairly casual arrangement, but when things get rocky on a Game in Prague, things come to a head. Can three very different men find a way to make love work? Easier said than done, especially when the past seems determined to complicate the future. A Game of Schemes What's to happen when a spy and his mark cross paths? Things get wild. When the two turn out to be old friends, all bets are off. The life of a grey-ops operative for a semi-secret organisation isn't always about guns and ticking bombs. Sometimes it's about something as simple as a snatch-and-grab. Sometimes it's as complex as discovering love where it's least expected. Sully's been living the life with the Farmingdale Gentleman's Club for five long years. After the Club saved him from a future as a cripple, he owes them. That's not to say that he doesn't love his work, because he does. Sometimes more than others. When an unexpected Game intrudes on Sully's holiday t
