This SAE Aerospace Recommended Practice (ARP) offers an overview of the many key processes that are being transformed as the aerospace industry is rapidly digitalizing. The G-31 Electronic Transactions in Aerospace committee has been established to develop standards related to these processes. This report, also known as the "cornerstone" document for the committee, is a comprehensive look at processes associated with commercial aviation. Because of universal convergence of these technologies, the technologies described here are applicable to other domains as well. Digitalization is impacting every system on an aircraft, and this process will continue to play an even more important role in the aerospace world in the coming years. Digital systems are widespread, constantly evolving, and their use in many applications within the aviation sector are yet to be standardized. The G-31 (Electronic Transactions for Aerospace) Committee has been established to develop guidelines and standards that will help the industry use digital data technology in a rational, consistent, secure, and safe manner. This "cornerstone" document outlines the activities of the G-31 Technical Committee with the objective of aligning them with where the industry is headed with all this new technology. This ARP addresses concepts such as data interoperability, connectivity, security, traceability, and transparency in the aerospace context; and in the process delineates how new technologies, such as blockchain, can be useful in solving some key technical problems.

This SAE Aerospace Information Report (AIR) offers an overview of the aspects of intellectual property (IP) protection, legislative compliance, business model, and technologies which need to be considered and addressed to implement a data interoperability, secure business model and technology platform to enable prognostics and health management (PHM) in the digital age. While this information report is restricted to the aerospace domain and also to commercial aviation, the concepts are applicable to any other domain that employs data for supporting health management functionality. Current aerospace systems are generating large amounts of data; for the most part, all this data is being created by siloed entities (i.e., stakeholders like components/sub-system manufacturers, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), and operators) and ends up living within the four walls of these individual entities. Aerospace industry can greatly benefit from turning this data into useful information to support its business goals. To achieve this goal, the industry can benefit from sharing sanitized data for developing new capabilities that benefit the industry as a whole. Hence, there is a need for a more effective and transparent way to share this data while strictly controlling the proprietary nature of the data adhering to all contractual terms and conditions. The purpose of this document is to describe the current digital data landscape and approach that can support health management.

The potential threat posed by Leonid meteroids to orbiting spacecraft over the next several years calls for new dynamic mitigation strategies to assist the satellite community in reducing the danger to its vehicles. This book offers deliberate dynamic mitigation strategies to complement the traditional shielding strategies, providing mission operators additional ways to decrease the danger. Five different attitude control and orbit maneuvering options are examined in detail. The information is presented in algorithmic form to allow technically competent, but meteoroid inexperienced, operators to easily understand the phenomena, assess the danger, and implement procedures. Although general in scope, the book emphasizes the Leonid meteor events of the 1998-2002 timeframe.

This SAE Aerospace Information Report (AIR) reviews technical, operational, and maintenance data being exchanged between key stakeholders in aerospace asset lifecycle and data standards available for such exchanges. It identifies gaps and non-availability of data standards in certain areas. The scope of the current document is limited to aircraft operations, maintenance and disposal stages post-build phase, and does not include the detailed interactions during the aircraft build phase. The aerospace ecosystem is complex with many stakeholders exchanging technical, operational, and maintenance data across lifecycle stages of aircraft from engineering, manufacturing, operations, and maintenance to disposal. Many standards have been developed to standardize and improve the effectiveness, efficiency, and security of the data transfer process. There are still challenges in data transfer due to the non-availability of standards in certain areas or lack of awareness and implementation of some standards. Hence, the purpose of the current document is to review the data being exchanged between various stakeholders in the aerospace asset lifecycle and the availability of standards for the data transfer. Further, the purpose is to identify gaps and non-availability of data standards. The current focus of this document is limited to aircraft operations, maintenance, transfer, and disposal processes post-build stage, and does not include the detailed interactions during the aircraft build phase. The scope is also limited to key stakeholder interactions throughout the stages of aircraft operations, maintenance, and disposal.

From the earliest days of aviation where the pilot would drop simple bombs by hand, to the highly agile, stealthy aircraft of today that can deliver smart ordnance with extreme accuracy, engineers have striven to develop the capability to deliver weapons against targets reliably, safely and with precision. Aircraft Systems Integration of Air-Launched Weapons introduces the various aspects of weapons integration, primarily from the aircraft systems integration viewpoint, but also considers key parts of the weapon and the desired interactions with the aircraft required for successful target engagement. Key features: Addresses the broad range of subjects that relate directly to the systems integration of air-launched weapons with aircraft, such as the integration process, system and subsystem architectures, the essential contribution that open, international standards have on improving interoperability and reducing integration costs and timescales Describes the recent history of how industry and bodies such as NATO have driven the need for greater interoperability between weapons and aircraft and worked to reduce the cost and timescales associated with the systems integration of complex air-launched weapons with aircraft Explores future initiatives and technologies relating to the reduction of systems integration costs and timescales The systems integration of air-launched weapons with aircraft requires a multi-disciplinary set of engineering capabilities. As a typical weapons integration life-cycle spans several years, new engineers have to learn the skills required by on-the-job training and working with experienced weapons integrators. Aircraft Systems Integration of Air-Launched Weapons augments hands-on experience, thereby enabling the development of subject matter expertise more quickly and in a broader context than would be achieved by working through the life-cycle on one specific project. This book also serves as a useful revision source for experienced engineers in the field.
