Electrochemical noise measurements (ENM), linear polarization tests and mass loss measurements were performed in sulfuric acid, acetic acid and other solutions. The ENM data were converted to corrosion rates by calculating the noise resistance, Rn = ?V/?I where ?V and ?I are the standard deviations of the potential and current. Good correlation among the three methods was obtained for low to moderate corrosion rates, but poor correlation was observed for high rates. ENM has proven valuable for determining corrosion rates in lowconductivity solutions, which are not suitable for linear polarization resistance (LPR) testing, and for measuring very low corrosion rates in which mass loss tests would have required at least 30 days exposure to provide meaningful results.
