DOWNLOAD EBOOKThe Book of Revelation holds a special fascination for both scholars and the general public. The book has generated widely differing interpretations, yet Revelation has surprisingly not been the focus of many single-volume reference works. The Oxford Handbook of the Book of Revelation fills a need in the study of this controversial book. Thirty essays by leading scholars from around the world orient readers to the major currents in the study of Revelation. Divided into five sections-Literary Features, Social Setting, Theology and Ethics, History of Reception and Influence, and Currents in Interpretation-the essays identify the major lines of interpretation that have shaped discussion of these topics, and then work through the aspects of those topics that are most significant and hold greatest promise for future research.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKIs there a specific Bible prophecy that must first be fulfilled before the return of Jesus Christ? Yes. While it is true that no exact date can be set for this event, the scriptures provide us with a clear context of specific world events that will create the time line for Jesus return. Jesus said, Of that day and hour no one knows (Matt. 24:36). If this was meant to be a mystery, it was also meant to be revealed eventually. Amos 3:7 says, Surely the Lord God does nothing unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets. This book brings to light the hidden mystery contained in the scripturesthat the return of Jesus Christ should not be a surprise to those who believe. Jesus also made it clear that there will be a final and specific generation who will witness the fulfillment of all remaining end-of-time prophecies. This book brings clarity regarding the great tribulation. Is it seven years or three and a half years? What is the wrath of God, and why and how does it play a role in the last days? Beyond the general prophecies of wars, famines, earthquakes, etc., lies a great wealth of other specific and unique signs that will indicate the imminent return of Jesus. Are you ready?

DOWNLOAD EBOOKScholars have often read the book of Revelation in a way that attempts to ascertain which Old Testament book it most resembles. Instead, we should read it as a combined and imitative text which actively engages the audience through signalling to multiple texts and multiple textual experiences: in short, it is an act of pastiche. Fletcher analyses the methods used to approach Revelation's relationship with Old Testament texts and shows that, although there is literature on Revelation's imitative and multi-vocal nature, these aspects of the text have not yet been explored in sufficient depth. Fletcher's analysis also incorporates an examination of Greco-Roman imitation and combination before providing a better way to understand the nature of the book of Revelation, as pastiche. Fletcher builds her case on four comparative case studies and uses a test case to ascertain how completely they fit with this assessment. These insights are then used to clarify how reading Revelation as imitative and combined pastiche can challenge previous scholarly assumptions, transforming the way we approach the text.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKSound matters. The New Testament’s first audiences were listeners, not readers. They heard its compositions read aloud and understood their messages as linear streams of sound. To understand the New Testament’s meaning in the way its earliest audiences did, we must hear its audible features and understand its words as spoken sounds. Sound Matters presents essays by ten scholars from five countries and three continents, who explore the New Testament through sound mapping, a technique invented by Margaret Lee and Bernard Scott for analyzing Greek texts as speech. Sound Matters demonstrates the value and uses of this technique as a prelude and aid to interpretation. The essays that make up this volume illustrate the wide range of interpretive possibilities that emerge when sound mapping restores the spoken sounds of the New Testament and revives its living voice.
