In 1840 he moved to Illinois by land with seven horses and two wagons. One large one called a prairie schooner was seven weeks on the road. He was born in 1788, and died in Oregon, Illinois, Octo ber 2, 1865. He married Catherine Emerick, of the same county. He immigrated to Pennsylvania in 1731. He married Anna Barbara Hoff 1734 at Coventry. His will was dated March 10, 1775 in Quincy, Franklin Co., Pennsylvania. In addition a great deal of data is presented on other families of Wertz, etc. surnames from the Midwest, Virginia and North Carolina, whose connection with Hans Jacob Wurtz has not been established.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKPeter Scheibly/Shively (1742-1823), according to family tradition, was born in Switzerland, and immigrated to Pennsylvania before the Revolutionary War. He served with the Northampton County Miltia during the Revolutionary War. He married twice and was the father of eighteen children, born 1772-1805. The family moved from Berks County, Pennsylvania, to Tyrone Township, Cumberland County, now Perry County, Pennsylvania, in 1789. Descendants lived in Pennsylvania and elsewhere. Descendants spelled their surname Scheibly, Shively, Sheibley, and other variant spellings.
