DOWNLOAD EBOOKIn this work, a meshless method is developed to solve radiative transfer problems and coupled transfer problems (radiation-conduction and radiation-convection) occuring in a semitransparent medium enclosed in a cavity of complex shape. The method is first used to solve the radiative transfer equation (RTE) by using the discrete ordinates framework. Three different formulations of the RTE are considered (first order formulation with the intensity as depend variable and two second order formulations with secondary variables). Several examples are treated in two dimensional and three dimensional geometries in order to assess the accuracy of the method. Next we have extended the application of the method to radiation-conduction coupled problems in steady state (the medium being homogeneous or heterogeneous by allowing the refractive index to vary spatially) and in unsteady state. In the second part of the thesis, we have shown how to solve three dimensional natural convection problems by using the vorticity and vector potential formulation. Finally, the application of this method to solve coupled radiation-convection problems is presented.
