These charts were prepared for the Naval Weather Service Command by the National Climatic Center (NCC), Asheville, N.C. The NCC is operated by the Environmental Data Service (EDS), a component of the U.S. Department of Commerce's National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Climatological data were based upon tabulations from Tape Decks 1116 and 1128 covering the period 1949-1970, summarized by 1/2 degree latitude-longitude quadrangles. Sea current data were provided by the Naval Oceanographic Office, Washington, D.C. Mixed layer depth and thermocline gradient analyses were based on bathythermograph (BT) tabulations provided by the Environmental Data Service's National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC). Thermocline gradients were selected from representative layer summaries at 20 meter intervals. (Author).
