Excerpt from Clay Mineralogy of Pre-Pennsylvanian Sandstones and Shales of the Illinois Basin, 1960, Vol. 3: Clay Minerals of Various Facies of Some Chester Formations Differences in clay minerals other than kaolinite are due in part to alterations that occur in them during and soon after deposition, and these alterations are functions of rate of deposition and/or water composition. The investigation indi cates that kaolinite is concentrated near the shore. Clay mineral facies in several stratigraphic units are mapped, using ratios of the several minerals to each other. These maps conform in a general way to environmental facies charts. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
