He attracts all kinds of people on his journey but mostly con artists, thieves, and drug addicts. They call him the sucker because of his desire to feed people and give his belongings to people who ask him for them. Then there is one drug addict who is out of the same neighbourhood as the boyand who knows of the boys weaknesses. He knows how to exploit it and figures that if the boy is free with his money by giving it away, then he could claim 10 per cent from the boys earnings and feed his habits. He takes evasive measures and disappears from the drug addict. He travels abroad, and years later, he marries and settles down in London. By some extraordinary bad luck, the drug addict tracks him down and makes his demand, but Lynx Ferry wont budge. The addict then teams up with a couple of local toughs, kidnaps Ferrys children, murders them, and disappears. After many years of searching to bring the murderers to justice, which proves futile, Lynx uses the power of the mind to draw them to him. Following on from his bestselling The Invisible Church, Steve Aisthorpe finds inspiration for his new book in the ecological concept of rewilding, an approach to the environment that allows nature to break free from the dulling effects of strategic control and bring wonder back into our lives. Applying this thinking to the Church, Steve Aisthorpe imagines what might happen if we put less faith in our strategies and plans, which inevitably depend on our own capabilities and resources, and allow the Spirit to lead us beyond our capacity to imagine. Rewilding the Church explores afresh the compelling invitation of Jesus to ‘Follow me’ and the call to ‘throw off everything that hinders and entangles’. It poses provocative questions and issues a call to contribute to the great rewilding of the Church – and to be rewilded ourselves. The same human instincts that have disrupted our natural environment have also constrained and domesticated the Church and Rewilding the Church commends a rediscovery of the adventure of faith. Steve Aisthorpe is one the freshest and most original voices in the church today.
