Becoming a Certified Association Executive (CAE) shows your commitment to the association profession. To earn the CAE title you need to first submit an application and prove to ASAE that you have met the experience and education eligibility requirements. Then you may apply to sit for the multiple choice based exam. The CAE exam is offered in a single 4-hour session, given twice a year (in May and December) at scheduled test centers throughout the U.S. The exam uses a pass-fail cut-off mechanism determined through a criterion-referenced method. This guide provides you with the study material necessary for passing the CAE exam.Quite many questions are, in my opinion, written subjectively. You can get tripped up easily if you do not pay attention to the way the questions are worded. For example, the questions below are asking for different answers even though they look highly alike:What could be the issue here? What could be done to BEST address the issue here? What has to be done FIRST in order to address the issue here? What could have been done to avoid the issue here? There are also hard facts based questions that are bound to be objective - such as those related to laws and regulations at the federal level (yes, the federal level, NOT the state level - state laws are mostly irrelevant in the exam). These questions primarily test your memorization skills. In any case, when you answer the CAE exam questions you have to take the point of view of a Chief Staff Executive or a Chief Elected Officer unless otherwise specified.I personally think the Principles of Association Management book published by the ASAE and the Chamber of Commerce (1975) is excellent - it covers many of the essential topics that you need to know to tackle the exam questions, but the problem is that it was written in 1975, that many of the information has yet to receive the deserved update. That is why we came up with this special study guide package.

In this provocative, revelatory tour de force, Jesse Prinz reveals how the cultures we live in - not biology - determine how we think and feel. He examines all aspects of our behaviour, looking at everything from our intellects and emotions, to love and sex, morality and even madness. This book seeks to go beyond traditional debates of nature and nurture. He is not interested in finding universal laws but, rather, in understanding, explaining and celebrating our differences. Why do people raised in Western countries tend to see the trees before the forest, while people from East Asia see the forest before the trees? Why, in South East Asia, is there a common form of mental illness, unheard of in the West, in which people go into a trancelike state after being startled? Compared to Northerners, why are people in the American South more than twice as likely to kill someone over an argument? And, above all, just how malleable are we? Prinz shows that the vast diversity of our behaviour is not engrained. He picks up where biological explanations leave off. He tells us the human story.

Focusing on fundamental principles, Hydro-Environmental Analysis: Freshwater Environments presents in-depth information about freshwater environments and how they are influenced by regulation. It provides a holistic approach, exploring the factors that impact water quality and quantity, and the regulations, policy and management methods that are necessary to maintain this vital resource. It offers a historical viewpoint as well as an overview and foundation of the physical, chemical, and biological characteristics affecting the management of freshwater environments. The book concentrates on broad and general concepts, providing an interdisciplinary foundation. The author covers the methods of measurement and classification; chemical, physical, and biological characteristics; indicators of ecological health; and management and restoration. He also considers common indicators of environmental health; characteristics and operations of regulatory control structures; applicable laws and regulations; and restoration methods. The text delves into rivers and streams in the first half and lakes and reservoirs in the second half. Each section centers on the characteristics of those systems and methods of classification, and then moves on to discuss the physical, chemical, and biological characteristics of each. In the section on lakes and reservoirs, it examines the characteristics and operations of regulatory structures, and presents the methods commonly used to assess the environmental health or integrity of these water bodies. It also introduces considerations for restoration, and presents two unique aquatic environments: wetlands and reservoir tailwaters. Written from an engineering perspective, the book is an ideal introduction to the aquatic and limnological sciences for students of environmental science, as well as students of environmental engineering. It also serves as a reference for engineers and scientists involved in the management, regulation, or restoration of freshwater environments.
