This book covers various experimental and theoretical aspects of multiparticle production in high energy interactions from lepton-lepton, lepton-hadron, hadron-hadron, hadron-nucleus and heavy ion collisons. This is the first time that data from CERN LEP, FNAL, DESY, BNL AGS, CERN SPS and BNL RHIC have been collected in a single volume. Not only accelerator-induced reactions but also cosmic ray interactions of very high energy are discussed, and the up-to-date theoretical interpretations are summarized.

The first precision measurements on CP violation in the B system are reported. Both the BELLE and the BABAR collaboration presented, among others, results for sin 2ß with much improved accuracy. Results from the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory, SNO, also deserve to be mentioned. The convincing evidence of solar neutrino oscillations had been presented by SNO prior to the conference; a full presentation was given at the conference. An incredibly precise measurement of the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon is reported, a fresh result from the Brookhaven National Laboratory. Apart from these distinct physics highlights, there are also the first results from the new Tevatron run and from the relativistic heavy ion collider RHIC. Theorists write of our ever better understanding of the Standard Model and of what might lie beyond. Risky as it is to highlight only a couple of exciting subjects, it is merely meantto whet the appetite for further reading.

This volume addresses the important questions at the interface of particle physics, cosmology and nuclear astrophysics. It includes the latest results from LEP 2, primordial nucleosynthesis and dark matter, experiments to measure the cosmic background radiation and experiments in the laboratory with radioactive beams to ascertain the importance of astrophysics in the universe. Also presented are the new results at highest momentum transfer in positron-proton collisions from HERA.

This book presents material that includes introductory reviews of astrophysics, the status of electroweak theories, Higgs searches, and precision tests of the standard model. Recent results on CP violation from CERN''s NA48 experiment are discussed, along with the most recent results from the Babar and Belle experiments at the B factories at SLAC in the US and KEK in Japan. Following that are theoretical talks on heavy quark decays and non-perturbative QCD. There are also discussions on QCD results from CERN''s LEP and DESY''s HERA colliders. Pre-conference presentations cover applications of the field in the environmental and medical domains.
