Six areas of particular interest--namely flash characteristics, stimulation techniques, geographic and temporal distribution and occurrence and correlation with environmental parameters, the luminous organism themselves, symbiosis, and circadian rhythms are identified and analyzed for significant progress, important research omissions, and trends.
