Much of the critical discussion of the European political economy and the Eurozone crisis has focused upon a sense that solidaristic achievements built up during the post-war period are being continuously unravelled. Whilst there are many reasons to lament the trajectory of change within Europe’s political economy, there are also important developments, trends and processes which have acted to obstruct, hinder and present alternatives to this perceived trajectory of declining social solidarity. These alternatives have tended to be obscured from view, in part as a result of the conceptual approaches adopted within the literature. Drawing from examples across the EU, this book presents an alternative narrative and explanation for the development of Europe’s political economy and crisis, emphasising the agency of what are typically considered subordinate (and passive) actors. By highlighting patterns of resistance, disobedience and disruption it makes a significant contribution to a literature that has otherwise been more concerned to understand patterns of heightened domination, exploitation, inequality and neoliberal consolidation. It will be of interest to students and scholars alike.

All men face some degree of temptation or discontentment. Here is your guide to get you past frustration into freedom. We live in a culture where 55% of married men and 70% of single men look at porn at least once a month and over half of all marriages end in divorce. To understand why that is we have to look beyond the battle to the root of both the problem and the solution... Most books for men on how to defeat lust and improve their relationships with the women in their lives preach a plan for trying harder, thinking better, and battering their behavior into submission. The problem with this approach: no matter how strong we are today, the battle continues tomorrow, and nothing ever seems to change in the long run. In Beyond the Battle, author and pastor Noah Filipiak shows you why symptom-based behavior management approaches offer short-term solutions. Instead, he unpacks the keys to a gospel-centered, long-term victory, helping you win the war against temptation and entitlement. Beyond the Battle is an accessible, effective, man-to-man resource for individual or small group use that will guide you toward freedom from sexual temptations by connecting you more deeply to Jesus—to his sacrifice and sufficiency. Filipiak addresses deep questions of marriage, singleness, and sexual temptation like: What's really the worst enemy in a man's marriage? How are my assumptions about my wife contributing to the problem? How does a corrected understanding of God's grace change my outlook on marriage or singleness? This book turns typical "purity" strategies on their head by addressing head-on our sense of self-entitlement and our self-seeking tendencies, showing how to look to God—instead of to women—for intimacy, approval, acceptance, and validation. Includes free access to 7-week small group video curriculum plus an option 40-day devotional.

Meningitis is deadly and debilitating; it strikes quickly, has serious health, economic and social consequences, and affects people of all ages in all countries of the world. Defeating Meningitis by 2030 – A Global Road Map sets out a plan to tackle the main causes of acute bacterial meningitis. This innovative initiative addresses meningitis not only as an infectious disease that can often be prevented and treated, but also with the absolute need for support and care for people living with disabling sequelae after an episode of meningitis. To defeat meningitis resources are required at all levels. The financing needs to implement the road map have been calculated and categorized to maximize the effect of every dollar invested. Investing in meningitis, will prevent cases of disease, cases of long-lasting sequelae and save lives. Strong multidisciplinary collaborations allowed the road map design to be one that will generate impact beyond meningitis, particularly by combining efforts with other health initiatives at local, national, regional and global levels. Investments called for in this document will strengthen primary health care systems including diagnosis, treatment and care – acting as a powerful lever for recognizing disability and improving access to support and rehabilitation – and providing benefits far beyond meningitis. All 194 WHO Member States have committed to defeating meningitis by 2030. Now investment is needed to not only reduce the avoidable pain and suffering caused by meningitis but to enable better health outcomes beyond meningitis.

The autobiographical work by Dr. Luke Kim describes his life throughout the turbulent 20th and into 21st century in Korea, Japan and the United states. The book is modest in size, but rich in content. It can be divided into three periods: early life in Northernmost Korea until age 15; the second period in Seoul where he experienced the very destructive Korean War, during which he lost his mother who was kidnapped by North Korean security agents, and we never heard from her, nor any news about her ever since 1950; Then his coming to America at age 26 in 1956.
