This text serves to introduce students to histology. It provides a thorough and current treatment of the structure, organization and function of the basic tissue types of the body as well as the organ systems which are organized from the basic tissues. The text presents a more modern, cell biological emphasis on the subject, while also bringing out the clinical correlations of histology in every chapter. Text material is frequently summarized in the many charts, tables and diagrams that are distributed throughout the book. The organization is intended to facilitate the rapid transfer of information from the book to the student. The book is written for medical and dental students as well as other professionals who are introduced to histology during their first year of professional schooling. It is also intended to serve the needs of advanced undergraduates who often take such a course in preparation for professional schools. The book contains limited amounts of biochemistry, physiology, endocrinology and neurobiology, but a sufficient amount of material so that the student can correlate functional information to the microscopic organization of tissues and organs. Hopefully, this mix will permit maximum learning and understanding of structure-function relationships. Since the students who first encounters histology is typically introduced to a large body of information in a limited time period, we have sought to maximize the rapid transfer of information by the extensive use of summary type tables, charts and drawings. In addition, a central portion of the book contains a limited number of color illustrations which will permit the student to view and recognize stained sections of tissues and organs. The color atlas should facilitate the student's view of laboratory work.

This unique atlas includes over 475 full color photomicrographs while providing students with a readily accessible source of morphologic information for use in the identification of tissues and organs. Each photomicrograph is accompanied by explanatory captions that guide students to the key morphologic features that identify the function of the structures. The self-assessment section at the end of the book serves as a review tool for those structures that students traditionally have difficulty in identifying.

This atlas provides undergraduate medical students with an understanding of the histological structures of various tissues and functional correlation. Beginning with an introduction to histology, microscopy and tissue preparation for microscopy, the following chapters illustrate histological aspects of different tissues (epithelial, connective, muscular and nervous), in different systems of the body. Each chapter concludes with a table summarising the microscopic structure of organs in the relevant system, and their function. The final chapter presents sample histology slides to enhance learning. Highly illustrated with nearly 340 clinical images and tables, the book also includes multiple choice and descriptive questions to assist revision. Key points Provides undergraduate medical students with an understanding of histological structures and functions of tissues Covers all different tissue types in various systems of the body Includes sample histology slides to enhance learning Multiple choice and descriptive questions assist revision

A strong grounding in basic histology is essential for all pathologists. However, there had always been a gap between histology and pathology in which histologic information specifically for the pathologist was often lacking. Histology for Pathologists deals with the microscopic features of normal human tissues, from the perspective of the surgical pathologist. This is the only text that uses human (vs. animal) tissues for the histology. It is the best reference in the literature for information on normal histology, and, as such, is essential for all clinical pathologists. Written by pathologists for pathologists, the new edition updates the pathologist's understanding of normal histology up to date with the incremental advances made in the last five years. The 3rd edition has become a "classic" purchased by virtually all residents beginning their pathology training, as well as pathologists in practice. The 4th edition builds on that substantial foundation. The table of contents remains essentially the same with the exception of some changes in authorship.
