Excerpt from Catalog, Auction Sale of United States Gold, Unearthed in Baltimore, Maryland, by Theodore Jones and Henry Grob, Minors: To Be Sold at Public Auction by Order of the Circuit Court #2, of Baltimore, Maryland, Thursday, May 2nd, 1935, at 2 P. M The gold coins described in the following pages were unearthed on August 31, 1934 in the cellar of the premises, 132 South Eden Street, Baltimore, Maryland by Theodore Jones and Henry Grob, minors. Judging from the appearance of the coins, the copper receptacle in which they were found, and other circumstances, the coins were. Pre sumably buried about the time of the Civil War. The news of the find created much interest in Baltimore and throughout the Unite-d States, and resulted in litigation in the Circuit Court No. 2 of Baltimore City, by the decree of which the treasure was awarded to the finders.
