DOWNLOAD EBOOKEye diseases have an important place in veterinary pathology, especially in that of small animal pathology. Paradoxically, the Romanian references available in this field of research are limited. “Atlas of veterinary ophthalmology”, written by DVM Iuliana Ionascu, is a premiere for our country and justly joins a few reference papers published abroad due to the collaboration between few renowned specialists and prestigious publishing companies. Out of a total of over 6000 patients with eye disorders examined in the Surgery Clinic of the Bucharest Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, 629 cases were selected, supplying 1072 images. A number of cases benefited from two or more images, thus illustrating the evolution over time of the addressed disorders or the treatment results. One of the paper’s twelve chapters, wrote in collaboration with DVM Georgeta Dinescu, is dedicated to the anatomo-pathological diagnosis of a number of eye disorders and includes 106 images, the majority of them containing histological sections. Each image is followed by a label in both Romanian and English. The labels contain information regarding the individual aspects of each disorder, as well as the therapeutic options for certain cases. The author of the atlas, DVM Iuliana Ionascu, a teacher of the Bucharest Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, started her career as a veterinary ophthalmologist with a doctoral thesis regarding lens pathology in cats and dogs. What followed were a number of practical stages in comparative ophthalmology at the University of Columbus, Ohio – USA, workshops and scientific conferences on veterinary ophthalmology in Berlin, Dublin, Prague, Trieste, Krakow, Budapest, a number of which she attended as an official guest of the organizers. DVM Iuliana Ionascu is a member of multiple international scientific societies as well as a member of the Executive Committee of the European Society of Veterinary Ophthalmology. She also serves as the chairman of the Romanian Association of Veterinary Ophthalmology. The atlas is first of all addressed to veterinary practitioners and final year veterinary students. I have the conviction that the author’s scientific prestige, the paper’s documentary value, the excellent graphic conditions and the bilingual text will capture the interest of foreign specialists regarding this exceptional paper. We wish the atlas will have a Safe Journey!
