DOWNLOAD EBOOKConcerns about global biodiversity are rising dramatically, yet we are lagging behind in the most basic prerequisite for its understanding and conservation: the inventory. Insect species may make up five or ten times the number of all other plant and animal species combined, and as such they represent one of the major challenges in biosystematic science. The World Catalogue of Insects series is an initiative compiling worldscale, authoritative catalogues of monophyletic insect taxa. Each volume in the series contains standard nomenclatoral information on all names pertaining to the taxon treated, including type locality and distribution to the extent this is relevant. Additional information is optional, e.g., location, status and condition of types; biology; bibliographical information; pest status; vector status; etc. This volume five focuses on Tortricidae (Lepidoptera). DOWNLOAD EBOOKIn Search of the Bluebird: Melancholy Stories on Love and Terror, by author Franco DRivera, presents an eclectic and original assortment of imaginative portraits of the absurd, centered on the zeitgeist of the human condition in a reality side-stepped, fighting the iron grip of constrictions. In one story a man finds himself in love with a world that is terrified of him. In another, a man discovers the world only after living an entire life in isolation; then there is a lighthearted tale of schizophrenia and parenthood. DRivera has written a rare collection of stories showing the perspectives of the people who make up these odd and poignant portraits. This debut collection is populated by fascinating, multidimensional characters and filled with stark and realistic settings. Written in literary and polished prose, In Search of the Bluebird brings a new and original voice to the literary short-story form and offers up a thoroughly entertaining read that will please city dwellers or anyone who just loves a great short story well told.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThe 1985/86 apparition of Halley's Comet turned out to be the most important apparition of a comet ever. It provided a worldwide science community with a wealth of exciting new discoveries, the most remarkable of which was undoubtedly the first image of a cometary nucleus. Halley's Comet is the brightest periodic comet, and the most famous of the 750 known comets. With its 76-year period, its recent appearance was truly a "once-in-a-lifetime" observational opportunity. The 1985/86 apparition was the thirtieth consecutive recorded apparition. Five apparitions ago, the English astronomer Edmond Halley discovered the periodicity of "his" comet and correctly predicted its return in 1758, a triumph for science best appreciated in the context of contemporary views, or rather fears, about comets at that time. The increasingly rapid progress in technological development is very much apparent when one compares the dominant tools for cometary research during Halley's next three apparitions: in 1835 studies were made based on drawings ofthe comet; in 1910 photographic plates were used; while in March 1986 an armada of six spacecraft from four space agencies approached the comet and carried out in situ measurements, 1 AU from the Earth. In 1910, nobody could have dreamed that this was possible, and today it is equally difficult to anticipate what scientists will be able to achieve in 2061.
