Excerpt from Annual Magazine Subject-Index, 1911: Including as Part II, the Dramatic Index The plan of the magazine subject-index remains the same this year as in the previous volumes. Briefly, it is to furnish a subject-index to the contents of the periodicals most needed by libraries, but which are not indexed in any other general index. Thus, as from its first issue, this index opens to the student an entirely new field of research. Fiction is omitted, except novels, and stories by prominent writers, which are entered under name of author. Excerpt from Annual Magazine Subject-Index, 1910: Including as Part II, the Dramatic Index, 1910 Of the magazines indexed in 1909, two do not appear in the 1910 issue: Bibliophile, London, which ceased publication in Sept., 1909, and Hampton's Magazine (formerly Broadway Magazine) which has been included in one of the other general indexes to periodicals, and therefore must be dropped according to our rule of non-duplication. Of new names we have two to record. American Forestry, which in 1909 was published as Conservation, became known under its present title in Jan., 1910. The Bulletin of the International Bureau of American Republics, which from Apr., 1909, to Jan., 1910, was called Bulletin of the International Union of American Republics, changed with the Oct., 1910, issue to Bulletin of the Pan American Union. During the present year the African Monthly suspended publication (with the Feb. Issue) though it has been announced that it may soon be resumed under new management. Van Norden Magazine ended its short career in March, 1910, having started life as a financial periodical and developed into an illustrated world-review. Of the periodicals we have been indexing no issues have appeared during 1910 of Florida Historical Society Quarterly; M azama Missouri Historical Society, Collections; United States Catholic Historical Society, Records; and Washington Historical Quarterly. Granite State Magazine has issued nothing since May, 1910, while Kindergarten Primary Magazine began in Sept., 1910, as vol. 24, no. 1 although no vol. 23 had been issued. It discovered its error in Jan., 1911, so in this index Sept. To Dec. Are referred to as vol. 23. The general plan and scope of the Index have been kept unchanged. Articles are entered under the subject - not by author or by title unless the title describes the subject. His tory, especially local United States history, is still the largest single subject covered. Thus references under Revolution; Civil War; Indians, as well as under the names of States and cities, and notable men and women, are most numerous. Forestry, Exploration, Architecture, Art, are well represented, and references will also be found to almost any subject. It should be noted here that all articles on the drama, theatres, and actors have been transferred to the Dramatic Index issued in connection with this volume.
